When FORM2000 first came to JWPM - Industrial Strength Marketing in 2015, they had a marketing problem to solve.

FORM2000 do not manufacturer and sell their own products, rather they are subcontracted by other manufacturers who use FORM2000 to fabricate sheet metal components that form part of their end products.

For example, one customer produces laboratory instruments. The main added value in their laboratory products is the sensors, electronic circuitry and display components. But, they need a housing for this equipment.

Equipment cases are easy for FORM2000 to manufacturer. With their advanced 3D CAD design facilities, and fully automated robotic manufacturing facility they can provide superior build quality and fast turnaround.

Their customer previously manufactured their instrument cases in-house but discovered that a disproportionate amount of factory space, management time and cost was tied-up in fabricating sheet metal in-house. Whereas the main value in their products is the electronics which is their core business.

Outsourcing to FORM2000 enabled them to obtain a superior sheet metal product and to reduce cost.

FORM2000 is a critical sheet metal supply chain partner to a wide range of final product manufacturers producing electrical cabinets, instrument cases, rolling stock components, railway signaling, fabricated sheet metal boxes and enclosures, vending machines, lighting, renewable energy, and medical equipment.

The main reason for wanting to fabricate sheet metal components in-house (apart from “we’ve always done it that way”) is for control, reliability of supply and flexibility. But, in reality FORM2000 can actually improve on all of these assumed benefits and for reduced cost.

As FORM2000’s Simon Mollison explains “If a manufacturer takes into account all of the costs, factory overheads, maintenance, management time, training, safety compliance as well as direct labour and raw material – in fact, they actually can’t produce the same item as cheaply as we can.”

However, on top of that FORM2000 has access to the latest Sheet Metal fabricating equipment enabling them to incorporate design features not always found in in-house sheet metal shops.

“In-house sheet metal shops usually can’t justify the capital equipment budget to provide the latest sheet metal fabrication processes and machinery. Consequently, they put-up with manual processes and old equipment; kidding themselves that it is more cost effective to fabricate in-house” Simon explained.

From a marketing perspective our task was to obtain more sheet metal OEM manufacturing contracts for FORM2000 to fill-up their vast underutilised manufacturing capacity.
