Ocean Reeve presents “Inspired to Publish” Seminar in Perth…

Announcement posted by eMAGINE Agency 18 Jul 2016

“But don’t get ripped off” he says, “Corruption is rife in self-publishing!”

Ocean Reeve is an Award Winning Publishing Consultant, Author and Manager at InHouse Publishing in Queensland who will present his immensely popular seminars to four libraries across Perth from 14th August – 17th August. With over 15 years’ experience in all facets of the publishing industry, he has a wealth of knowledge and guidance to share in the world of assisted independent publishing. Teaming up with Perth-based “The Book Mentors” Ocean Reeve and Ross Addison are together looking forward to helping many new authors understand the process to becoming successfully published by avoiding costly mistakes.

The aim of Ocean’s presentations is to encourage new authors on their writing and publishing journey by explaining to them the process including integrity in the industry so an author feels equipped to protect themselves along their journey. Ocean Reeve is an author himself having published his book, “The Word” that covers everything a new writer would need to know in the world of Independent Publishing.

Based in Brisbane, Ocean works with a team of progressive and innovative leaders in their field. InHouse Publishing/Print and Design/Signs are constantly revising the technology behind processes including high-expense investment in machinery, training and staff. This creative environment provides regular inspiration that further heightens the experience for the customer to help bring their books their life. Ocean strongly believes this translates into all parts of the creative process which is what motivates him to be travelling the country for the past 12 months delivering his highly popular seminar to libraries and businesses including the local Chambers of Commerce in each location.

“Inspired to Publish” Seminar includes:

·         The growth of the industry

·         Understanding the creative process

·         Why we should publish

·         The Independent Publishing process

·         The basics of book marketing

Corruption in the self-publishing industry has never been at such an all-time-high as authors pour thousands of dollars and hope into their books and works to receive nothing or very little in the way of sales or even their ‘actual’ books. Many are locked into ten year contracts, caveats where they cannot sell their own books and as a result, are now heavily in debt. When they have taken Australian Self-Publishers to court and won – the self-publishing sharks have air-tight financials in place to protect them and not the author. The phrase “What is best for business” gets used constantly.

Recently interviewed by ABC Radio, Ocean Reeve explains in detail the pitfalls of the publishing industry (both traditional and self-publishing) and what authors should look out for. His in-depth knowledge of the industry attracts massive interest from authors all over the world as he highlights how to not only be a creative author but how to ensure you remain in control throughout the process.

Ocean currently manages over 400 active authors, many of whom have been recovered by Ocean as they sat in his offices crying; yet again having been ripped off by overseas and Australian Self-Publishing companies.

Ocean Reeve says, “I love Australia, a fantastic country with some awesome people. However, it also is a country that has facilitated some businesses to operate with very little ethics, principles, or respect. I have discovered in the last four years that there are at least four publishing companies in this country that are anything but transparent, experienced, and customer-focused. I have a proven track record of helping thousands of authors and it climbs daily. The percentage of authors that have needed recovery has also climbed and despite the legal battles, police involvement, and media exposure, there seems to be no accountability. Well there is with me.”

InHouse Publishing / Ocean Reeve works with many high profile clients also including:

• Toni Childs – EMMY Award Winner (Singer/Songwriter) - ‘Rebuild Nepal’ launching in October 2016

• William Shatner – from Star Trek Book: “Catch Me Up” was successful crowdfunding campaign

• Andrew Barsa – Wealth Psychology expert and public speaker who has written “The Inner Millionaire”

• Eric Bailey – No. 1 Google ranked and activational speaker and author of “Bring Your A Game”

Since his journey began in publishing, Ocean has helped authors find their voice and he continues to build a strong community of authors and publishing professionals across Australasia and beyond.  He is an incredibly inspirational speaker that encourages participants to find their “inner-author” and begin to put pen to paper.

Ocean and InHouse’s events tour program includes Perth, Melbourne and previously this year, the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Mount Isa, and Cairns as he continues to share his experience and knowledge of writing, creative leadership and publishing at every opportunity.

ABOUT “THE BOOK MENTORS”

“It’s our belief that everyone out there has a story in them, just waiting to be told. The hard part, people tell us, is getting it down on paper and then getting it printed.

And that’s where we can help. Self-publishing is the saviour of today’s would-be authors but you do need to know what you’re doing to keep costs under control and avoid costly mistakes. You cannot buy experience and that hands-on knowledge that we have gained over the years is vital in pulling a successful project together.

Since 2001 we have been writing and creating viable projects, interviewing, writing and working with talented professionals in every aspect of the publishing ‘game’, which has certainly evolved over time.

As a mentor, I am able to use my own experience to guide new authors through the process of writing including elements like plot, structure, themes and more with the idea of teaming up with Ocean Reeve to help Western Australian authors get successfully published.”

About Ross Addison:

I’ve plied my craft a writer in a number of different guises for almost 45 years now and, along the way, learned that a lot of people can ‘write’ but few are blessed with that innate ability to tell a story. Throughout my career, whether writing television or radio commercials, websites, blogs or books, I was always simply ’telling a story’. How interesting and informed you make that story dictates how effective it will be as a piece of communication.

I wrote and published my first book in 2001 but it wasn’t until I came to Perth in 2010, following a successful, life-changing bone marrow transplant, that I knew that being an author was what really inspired me and was what I wanted to do full-time.

I’ve published nine different titles to date with another three currently in production. My published works cover a range of topics from self-improvement and motivation to biographies of iconic Australians that I have ghost-written on their behalf.

What I enjoy most of all is being able to use my skills as a writer to help others get their story told.

It’s an uplifting and satisfying experience for me when I see the look of pure joy when I hand that first copy of their story, in print, to someone who I have mentored through the process.
