Award-winning software firm, iConstruct, has helped develop a COBie plug-in for software giant Autodesk's Navisworks platform

Award-winning software firm, iConstruct, has helped develop a COBie plug-in for software giant Autodesk's Navisworks platform. The association reinforces iConstruct's position as the leading and respected innovator in the Navisworks sphere.

iConstruct Managing Director Shawn Weir said, "A tool that allows you to export a COBie spreadsheet from Revit has been available for a while, however many projects use tools other than Revit for parts of their workflow, so for that reason Autodesk knew a COBie Extension for Navisworks was overdue."

COBie can already be managed at design stage, but this plugin is aimed at broadening it to later phases of the process. This new plugin maximises team collaboration on COBie through procurement and construction, not just during first design phases.

The iConstruct Team enjoyed the collaborative development process with Autodesk. Weir says, "Everything we do is about maximising collaboration. iConstruct innovation is always underpinned by end-user collaboration and providing powerful and efficient BIM solutions has opened the door to collaboration with Autodesk."

Users can now import and export COBie-standard spreadsheets from Navisworks to share with all stakeholders, who can then introduce information and re-import the data to Navisworks where it can be federated with the existing COBie data to create a global source of truth. The application also integrates with tablet-based BIM 360 Field.

Autodesk confirmed that testing went exceptionally well, with customers citing that the plugin was a great free tool and something that finally lets users automatically produce COBie for all disciplines and not just Revit projects. Practitioners using AutoCAD-based tools like Fabrication CADMEP, infrastructure tool AutoCAD Civil 3D, non-Autodesk-based tools like Tekla Structure or ArchiCAD can now all get on board.
