D-Link, a global leader in the design, development, and manufacturing of networking, broadband, wireless, and communications technologies for the SOHO, SMB and enterprise markets, and SkyNetGlobal Limited, (ASX: SKG), a leading provider of wireless broadband solutions, today announced the formation of a strategic alliance.
SkyNetGlobal and its subsidiary W Home Pty Ltd will bundle D-Link Wireless and Broadband products as part of their continuing deployment of Wireless solutions, broadband access and home automation into Multiple Dwelling Units (MDUs). Our definition of an MDU is any building, residential or business with over 60 units.
W Home or home automation is not only gaining momentum worldwide but is also gaining public interest in Australia. Electrical appliances and devices, including communication devices are connected and controlled via wireless and powerline. Consumers can control these devices by a universal remote control, or by voice control, or by mobile phone, or SMS, or via a PC/PDA with internet access if they have a PC with a broadband connection, which is connected to the devices using our software. The home PC can be the centre of the entire system, managing scheduled events etc. High rise tenants can use W Home to get broadband connections.
SkyNetGlobal CEO Jonathan Soon said:" The formation of a strategic alliance with D Link, which is one of the 2 largest networking equipment suppliers in the world, will significantly boost the penetration of our products given D Link's reputation and market leadership in the Australian market place. Both companies will benefit greatly from cross selling opportunities and other areas of mutual interest.
Typical customers are early technology adopters who are looking at future proofing their environment. Currently there are 20 live W Home MDU sites in Australia, with 30 additional sites ready for deployment and over 200 sites ready for signup through access arrangements. It is estimated that well over 20,000 broadband customers will be using this technology, by the 30th June 2005.
Given the strong market penetration of both our Wireless and Broadband products, D-Link will also greatly further benefit from this alliance, says Domenic Torre, D-Links General Manager Australia & New Zealand.
"We are pleased to forge an alliance with a well respected and experienced provider of wireless broadband solutions like SkyNetGlobal. SkyNetGlobals expertise along with their established base further supports D-Link's leadership presence in the digital home and wireless hotspot markets," added Torre.
