Solar Companies Partner to Light Up the Days for TLC for Kids

Announcement posted by Enphase Energy 27 Jul 2016

MELBOURNE, Australia July 27, 2016 – A 30 kilowatt rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) system was donated to TLC for Kids, a children's charity that provides practical and emotional support to sick kids and their families across Australia, during a fundraising event held in Melbourne on July 23.

Valued at $50,000, the solar PV system is a combined donation from three solar companies - Enphase Energy, Suntech and Living Energy. For this installation, 122 Enphase Microinverters and Suntech Tier One solar PV modules will be provided. The system will be designed and installed by Living Energy Solutions at the TLC for Kids headquarters in Brunswick West in Victoria.

When the solar PV system is commissioned in August, it is expected to provide almost 100 percent of the charity’s energy during the day. This will result in savings of up to $350,000 from power bills during the lifetime of the system’s operation allowing TLC for Kids to redirect this funding towards crucial services in over 400 children’s hospitals across Australia.

The system was donated at a fundraising event held at Progression Fitness Club owned by the Captain of Collingwood Football Club, Scott Pendlebury and his wife Alex. Collingwood players and celebrity supporters rallied behind a full day event at the club where guests had the chance to play off against Scott in a trick shot challenge to raise funds for TLC for Kids.

Enphase Energy, Suntech and Living Energy Solutions who had installed an 8 kilowatt solar PV system for Progression Fitness Club in June, rallied together to donate a system to TLC for Kids for the fundraising event.

Tim Conolan, CEO of TLC for Kids and 2014 Australian of the Year Local Hero recipient, said, “We are touched by this amazing show of generosity and would like to extend our sincere thanks to Enphase, Living Energy and Suntech. A solar system at TLC for Kids’ headquarters in Brunswick is a gift that will keep on giving. This system promises to relieve our charity of many years’ worth of power bills, meaning that hundreds of thousands in funds can be redirected to kids and families in need.”

Nathan Dunn, Managing Director of Enphase Asia-Pacific said, “Many charities across Australia, despite the the importance of their work, go completely without government support. In addition, they and forced to deal with added pressure from rising power prices which have more than doubled since 2007. Solar helps to shield these vital organisations from power price rises, and Enphase is delighted to support TLC for Kids with this donation.”

Peter Novak, National Sales Manager of Suntech Australia said, “Being a non for profit organisation, charities like TLC for Kids are exposed to the rising cost of energy. Sourcing energy from the sun will make a significant reduction to their electricity bills allowing TLC for Kids to funnel valuable donations to those that need it most.  Suntech are proud to support TLC for Kids with our donation of solar panels.

Ben Lovell, Director at Living Energy said, "We have seen the work TLC for Kids does and we couldn't be happier to support this important cause. We are a family oriented company and we recognise that nothing is more important than the health and wellbeing of our kids. Solar is a great way for charities to future-proof themselves for years to come, and Living Energy is privileged to be in a position to be able to give back in this way."

Rushing a sick child to hospital and enduring long-stay admissions can be a stressful, world-shattering event. TLC for Kids is a children’s charity dedicated to providing support to sick kids and their families during these challenging times. Their services are delivered swiftly and without the need to undergo lengthy processes, evaluations, interviews or waiting times.
