MICHAEL HILL UNVEILS  SPARKLING NEW COLLECTIONS IN MELBOURNE’S CBD

Sir Michael Hill and Lady Christine Hill will unveil two jewelry collections and  their new flagship store on the corner of Bourke and Swanston Streets in Melbourne on Thursday the 11th of August with a performance from the 2015 winner of the Michael Hill International Violin Competition, Australian violinist Suyeon Kang. She will be playing on Sir Michael Hill’s own 260 year old violin, a Giovanni Battista Guadagnini made in 1755 and valued at a noteworthy  $2,000,000.

At the opening, The Michael Hill Designer Bridal Collection which is a salute to Sir Michael’s  love of music and diamonds and the Spirits Bay collection, designed by  Lady Christine Hill will be shown for the first time in Australia. Spirits Bay is an exquisite collection of jewelry inspired by a trip that Christine and Michael took over 50 years ago to Spirits Bay, at the top of the North Island of New Zealand. During a walk in the bay, Michael picked up a smooth-worn Totorere shell and slipped it on Christine’s finger. The Spirits Bay collection is a masterpiece of nature shaped by the elements, brought to life in precious metal.

“Whether worn as a symbol of achievement, a celebration of your own inner strength, or given as a gift in recognition of remarkable grace under pressure, I believe the purity and simplicity of the design speaks to the spirit of strong women everywhere. Women who have pursued their dreams wholeheartedly, who have persevered and never given up,” says Lady Christine, about her Spirits Bay collection.

Guests will be treated to a champagne and caviar tasting with imported caviar from Gourmet Life’s Josh Rea, and Laurent Perrier champagne at the intimate showings to be held over brunch at 10.30am, lunch at 12.30pm and in the evening at 6.30pm.

ABOUT MICHAEL HILL

Sir Michael’s incredibly inspirational story of starting his business began after his house burnt down in 1979. He was 42, married with two young children and had lost nearly everything in the fire. This was the moment in Michael’s life where he gained clarity on what was important to his wife Christine and himself, and provided the catalyst for the beginnings of the first Michael Hill store. He proceeded to open his first jewellery store in Whangarei on New Zealand’s North Island against all of the best advice.  He wrote on a piece of paper “7 stores in 7 years”, which he achieved. Then in 1987 he floated the company on the New Zealand Stock Exchange, opened his first store in Australia and also set the vision of "70 stores in 7 years”, which he achieved. The company now has over 300 stores, employing over 3,000 full and part time staff across New Zealand, Australia, Canada and the United States generating revenue of over half a billion Australian dollars a year.

Sir Michael is the company’s Founder President and his daughter, Emma Hill, is the Chairperson of the board. In addition to 297 Michael Hill branded stores across the world the company has opened 16 Emma & Roe branded stores in Australia and New Zealand since 2014 and has recently announced another 12 to open in the next year.
