14-year-old set to tackle 27km swim to raise money for the Indie Rose Foundation

Announcement posted by 360PR 28 Jul 2016

On Saturday 6th August, Finnian Weaver will attempt to swim from Green Island to Yorkeys Knob to raise funds for the Indie Rose Foundation. With a distance of 27km, the swim is expected to take the Mareeba State High School student and Cairns Surf Club Lifesaver between 8 and 9 hours.

Throughout the swim, Finn will use a Shark Shield FREEDOM 7, the world’s only independently tested and proven shark deterrent device, to protect him from any unwanted shark encounters.

Finnian’s parents Brad and Susi Weaver say, “It’s been over a year since Indie Rosa Taurima lost her battle with cancer. Our family, in particular Finn, were inspired by Indie’s story and immediately wanted to find a way to help.”

The Indie Rose Foundation exists to help lessen the financial burden on Far North Queensland families with children who are suffering from illnesses, which require specialised medical treatment away from home.

Lindsay Lyon, Shark Shield Managing Director says, “If Finn is successful in completing the swim he will be one of only a handful of people to have ever made it and may even be the youngest. We’re proud to be on board to help support him along the way and give his parents some peace of mind.”

About Shark Shield
Shark Shield is for professional adventurers. It is the worlds only scientifically proven and independently tested electrical shark deterrent. Sharks have small short-range electrical receptors in their snouts used for locating food. Shark Shield’s unique three-dimensional electrical waveform turns sharks away by causing unbearable spasms in these sensitive receptors. Used by professionals, such as navies around the world, Shark Shield is a safety device providing peace of mind, while supporting the conservation of sharks. If you’re serious about adventure, you wear a Shark Shield.
