Australian Businesses Edging Toward Environmental Sustainability

Companies Taking the Reins as Environmental Concerns Rise

Environmental consideration and government incentives have pushed a growing amount of businesses towards eco-friendly services over the last decade.

This will not come as much of a surprise when considering the sustainability crisis that Australia has found itself in over the last few years, which has threatened to impact the country’s effect on both pollutants and global warming in an oversized way over the coming years.

While this trend toward feasible environmental solutions is still in need of growth and development, there are several different services that have made their way to the forefront of this positive corporate upheaval.

The Boons of LED Lighting

While heading toward a more viable retail sector and working off a similar residential initiative that recently concluded, the Australian government has made changes to the VEET scheme (Victorian Energy Efficiency Target) that have allowed businesses to develop their environmental strategies further without the significant loss in revenue that has caused hesitation for companies in the past.

This has led to qualifying companies like LEDified being able to transfer to energy efficient LED lights at a drastically reduced cost, shrinking their environmental impact while lowering overall energy costs across the board.

Reuse and Recycling of Printer Cartridges

Taking into special consideration the impact that non-biodegradable substances can have over a relatively short period of time, more distributors and manufacturers of disposable cartridges have been finding ways to personally recycle these products at the end of their working life.

This recycling of resources has most often taken the form of ink cartridge collection programs, either giving consumers the option of sending their depleted cartridges to be broken down and reused, or collecting them in bulk from participating companies.

Not only has this process of re-use had an impact on the amount of ink and toner cartridges making their way to landfill or similar areas, but it has also cut the overheads of these companies and allowed them to keep at least a portion of their resources renewable in the process.

This has also pushed manufacturing of reusable cartridges, cutting costs for both the customer and manufacturer while allowing the same cartridges to stay in service for much longer than their disposable counterparts.

Solar Energy Success

While they have become more prominently known for their residential use in recent times, solar panels have achieved an unprecedented amount of public awareness, with an estimated one in every five Australians utilising solar for a percentage of their electricity use.

This figure, while still shy of the Australian government’s eventual goal, has meant that almost 15% of all Australian power usage is solar as of 2015, and with similar initiatives put in place for wind and hydro power, we can expect the percentages of renewable energy to rise consistently for the near future.

Australia’s record on climate science and carbon emissions have been less than ideal on the world scale recently, however the efforts of these businesses to maintain a sustainable environmental future should give us hope that we are heading in the right direction.
