A real sailboat that comes in a bag

Announcement posted by Ducky Catamarans Australia 03 Aug 2016

Ducky Catamarans Australia launches its range of inflatable catamarans with a choice of four variants from the 3.9m Ducky 13 to the 5.94m Ducky 19.

Any dinghy or catamaran sailor will tell you how much fun this sort of sailing is... but having to tow your dinghy or cat on a trailer and getting it in and out of the water, not so much!

Now Australian sailors have an alternative - the Ducky inflatable catamaran range - all of which can be carried around in a car and assembled ready to sail in a very short time - in the case of the smallest Ducky 13, in under 30 minutes. And when you've finished sailing you just deflate the pontoons, take the catamaran apart and pack it away, all in under 20 minutes, then stow it in a cupboard or in a corner of the garage (watch the timelapse video of a Ducky 13 being assembled and disassembled on the website).

We've spent a bit of time looking for a real catamaran that performs like a regular fibreglass model but with the adaptability of an inflatable unit - and the Ducky range is it. All of the Ducky models are internationally certified and we're so confident of the build quality we offer a 3 year manufacturer’s guarantee against any manufacturing fault. We're looking forward to introducing Australian sailing enthusiasts to the Ducky range.” said Ducky Catamarans Australia's Peter Stewart.

The Ducky range has been available in Europe since 1999 and Ducky catamarans are popular for recreational sailing and racing and have even been used for adventure sailing in remote areas such as Greenland and Tierra del Fuego at the southern tip of South America.

The entry level model, the Ducky 13, weighs just 35kg and is packed into two bags, one 1.8m long and the other 0.8m long. As with all of the Ducky models, no tools are needed to assemble it and the Ducky 13 doesn't use ropes for rigging either. All models are constructed using a range of lightweight yet strong materials - the frame, mast and connecting units are made of anodised high quality aluminium alloy. The profiled centreboard and rudder are made of fibreglass reinforced plastic and the sail is made of Dimension-Polyant dacron (170 g/m2). All fastening elements are made of stainless steel. The float cases are made out of Valmex, a special PVC boat fabric (1000 g/sq.m).

Ducky now gives avid sailors (and would-be sailors) in Australia a chance to own a sailing catamaran without the associated problems of where to park it when you're not using it or of needing to have a trailer to go sailing. Throw it in the back of the car (or check it in as luggage when travelling) and away you go!
