Australian Team Named for 2016 Quiz Olympiad

Quizzing Australia is pleased to announce that the following teams will represent Australia in the inaugural Quiz Olympiad to be held from 3rd to 6th November in Athens, Greece.

A team

·         Ross Evans - NSW (c)

·         Yolanda Stopar - Vic

·         Rick Bakker - Qld

·         Gordon McGregor - NSW

B team

·         Christian Kelly - Qld (c)

·         David Regal - NSW

·         Paul Bakker - Qld

·         Michael Logue – ACT

Team selections were based on performances in the annual World Quizzing Championships which was first held in 2003. Both the WQC and Quiz Olympiad are run by the International Quizzing Association.

Ross Evans and David Regal are both past Australian champions (the reigning champion Supernerd Issa Schultz is unable to attend due to commitments with The Chase – Australia), while Yolanda Stopar won nearly one million dollars on the Channel Seven game show Temptation in 2006.

More than 500 quizzers from all over the world are expected to take part in the Quiz Olympiad. Confirmed attendees include:

·         “The Governess” Anne Hegerty, star of The Chase – Australia.

·         Barry Simmons from the BBC quiz show Eggheads

·         Ken Jennings who won 74 consecutive episodes of the US game show Jeopardy!
