Announcement posted by Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) 06 Sep 2016

The New South Wales Government’s Minister for Industry, Resources and Energy, the Hon Anthony Roberts MP, has publicly announced his support for the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) and its efforts to progress the recognition of the profession of Project Management at state and federal government levels.

At a gala dinner for the announcement of the 2016 winners of the AIPM’s NSW Chapter Project Management Achievement Awards (PMAAs), Minister Roberts was quoted as saying “The NSW Government is committed to supporting a fertile business environment in NSW and retaining our State’s place as the preferred place to do business and invest. Good project management is critical to the delivery of those social and business outcomes, and good project management happens when there are certified project managers delivering those key government projects.”

CEO of the AIPM, Ms Yvonne Butler, responded to Minister Roberts’ comments today. “At a state government level, NSW is leading the way in the recognition of good project management. We endorse Minister Roberts’ comments, and look forward to working with the NSW Government to ensure that this invaluable capability is recognised as a profession and that we have certified project managers in key project and program management roles within government”.

Minister Roberts has long been a champion for improving NSW Government outcomes, and Ms Butler went on to say “Making it Happen” is the guiding principle of the NSW Government, which could be an abbreviated job description for project and program managers. We look forward to the day that they receive appropriate recognition for the role they play in delivering that outcome”.

The Australian Institute of Project Management is the peak body for Project Management in Australia. Celebrating its 40th year, its aim is to drive the professionalism of project management and to be regarded as a world authority and advocate on project management practices and competency.  Its mission is to foster the application of project management skills and techniques in order to deliver exceptional organisational outcomes.  AIPM has been a key driver behind Australia becoming a world leader in professional participation in project management.
