2016 NSW Wine Awards starts next week

Announcement posted by Palate PR 15 Sep 2016

The benchmark that is the Pier One Sydney Harbour NSW Wine Awards kicks off on 20th September 2016

The 2016 Pier One Sydney Harbour NSW Wine Awards begins on Tuesday when the judging of over 800 amazing wines from NSW (yet another record number in the show’s 21 year history) starts in the Hunter Valley.

This is the first time the Hunter has been used as the judging venue, after a regional judging program was introduced in 2014. Griffith (2014) and Orange (2015) have set a really high standard but the Hunter is primed to exceed both, with judges critiquing the largest range of NSW wines ever, representing all of the 14 NSW wine regions. The local Hunter wine industry is thrilled to host the event this year and get to showcase the flourishing Cessnock, Singleton and Wine Country alliance, which is working towards the benefit of the whole region; a region that embraces wine tourism and its economic importance.

Since its inception in 1996, the NSW Wine Awards has been highlighting the very best of our local wines and assisting NSW winemakers perfect and promote their wines. The show allows large and small wineries to compete against each other, and gives all a shot at a gold or silver medal, or one of the 18 trophies on offer.

The team of expert judges, led by PJ Charteris as the 2016 Chair of Judges, are eager to see an ever increasing diversity of wines this year, including early 2016 releases.

Pier One Sydney Harbour is delighted to again be the show’s major sponsor as this event truly sparkles on the Wine Show calendar and the Pier One luncheon conducted by the newly hatted Gantry Restaurant will be one not to miss.

Who will vie for the coveted ‘2016 Pier One Sydney Harbour NSW Wine of the Year’?
