NASA and Baidu to lead exploration of big data and business in Melbourne
Sydney, NSW – 22 September 2016 – The biggest ‘big data’ names on the planet will converge on Melbourne on 6 October to share the latest thinking on artificial intelligence replacing humans and building better business through data and analytics.
Hot topics at the intersection of next-generation business and advanced analytics will be discussed at Advancing Analytics 2016, the fourth annual conference organised by the Institute of Analytics Professionals of Australia (IAPA), the largest analytics association in Australia. The event takes place Thursday 6 October 2016 at the Grand Hyatt, Melbourne from 9.00am-5.30pm.

The global analytics leaders who will present at this year’s event:
· · Chris Mattmann, Chief Architect & Principal Data Scientist, NASA (USA) will deliver the international keynote entitled ‘The future of big data analysis: by human or by machine?’ He’ll outline how NASA catalogues all of their current planetary science data, how NASA unlock data from next-gen earth science system satellites and discuss the future of big data analysis – AI for Enterprise
· Jyoti Jain, Director Advanced Analytics APAC, Johnson & Johnson (SG) will discuss how to make analytics the focus for driving results across the business; discussing how to drive fact-based decision-making to deliver business results, the importance of leveraging explanatory and predictive models and Johnson & Johnson’s global ecosystem of best-in-class analytics.
· Shiming "Simon" Zhang, Principal Data Scientist, Baidu (CN) will discuss how Baidu, the world’s largest search marketing company, delivers streaming analytics for fast big data application and explore the advantages of purpose-built app platforms against separate systems
· Marie Wallace, Analytics Strategist, IBM (IR) will present the ethical and societal implications of analytics - that is more powerful, more personal, and more deeply embedded into society - for the new generation of data scientists.
· Antony Ugoni, Global Director of Analytics & Artificial Intelligence, SEEK will deliver an exclusive overview of the results of the 2016 IAPA Annual Salary Survey.
Additionally, local experts from education, research, operations, financial services and software will discuss how Australia can get and keep the skills required for the future in panel discussion format.
· Panel discussion: The looming skills shortage crisis: how to foster analytics talent at home will be the topic of a panel discussion with:

The panel will debate and discuss the challenges and strategies for building strong technical teams, the changes required to create a business-ready talent pool of data scientists and the role of external consultants in building analytics capabilities.
