The official data is in. The popularity of vinyl in Australia is sky-rocketing.

After two years of steady growth, vinyl sales in Australia now represent close to 15% of the music industry’s physical sales. Australian vinyl sales overall are up around 80% in 2016 and this isn’t an anomaly – it follows sales growth of 38% in 2015 and a staggering 127% in 2014.

It’s a trend across much of the western world. Vinyl sales in the U.S. have increased for a tenth straight year, now selling more than 2.8 million units per year. The UK is close behind, with sales also growing for the eighth consecutive year, and over 2 million units sold annually.

All this comes as no surprise to the owners of Gramovox, the Chicago-based firm behind the ground-breaking 2013 Bluetooth Gramophone, who set out on their next mission to reimagine the turntable.

The result is this visually stunning Floating Record player which combines the beauty and nostalgia of yesterday’s turntable with modern sound technology and cool, contemporary design.

Whether you are playing vintage vinyl or a freshly pressed new release from today’s hit makers, the sleek design of the Floating Record will spoil your ears while treating your eyes.

And the only place to get your hands on a Floating Record player is at Australia’s leading online vinyl store The Sound of Vinyl – the only authorised stockist in Australia.

The Sound of Vinyl is Australia’s most comprehensive online offering of new release and limited edition vinyl spanning all genres of music, so it makes sense that they provide music loving fans with a player that’s not only worthy of their vinyl, its sound quality and design also fits in with their contemporary world.

Gramovox Co-Founder and CEO Pavan Bapu explains: “We treat vinyl as the art form that it is. Watching the vinyl as it spins, which always looks so different from record to record, is all part of the experience. We wanted to create a visceral vinyl experience that showcased the record as both art and a medium to produce fantastic sound. And we’re proud that we spared no resources in ensuring the engineering was perfect, so it plays flawlessly in this vertical format.

“We want our products to evoke nostalgia, to bloom in the design space, and allow you to rediscover the way you experience your music. The result is a high-performance turntable that plays your records vertically—producing the illusion that it’s floating.”

The quality craftsmanship means each player is hand-assembled in Chicago, with electro-mechanical engineers hand-tuning each product before they leave their door.

There’s also almost no setup required when it arrives, it’s simply taken out of the box and ready for you to play.

And because it’s made by music-lovers, The Floating Record player is a high-performance turntable that comes complete with dynamic full-range stereo speakers. But of course, with built-in RCA line out ports, you can also choose to bypass the integrated speakers and use your own existing audio set up. Additionally, you can use your headphones through the built-in 3.5mm stereo jack.

You can easily switch between formats too, catering for both 33 ⅓ or 45 RPMs by moving the silicon belt over the inner or outer groove of the middle gear, plus record clamps for both types of records are provided.
