Sydney, Australia – 26th September 2016 - This spring, Brother Australia is proud to announce the launch of its 16th International Quilting Contest, a fantastic opportunity for Australian quilt-makers to be inspired, create an “Eco” themed quilt and in return be recognised at a national and international level.

The search is on for the next quilting champion after Australian quilters received high accolades earlier this year following Australian Julie Harding’s 1st Prize win for “Koalas” and a total of six out of eighteen international prize wins were again awarded to local Australian quilters.

The Eco theme, which has been consistent year on year, is inspired by Brother Earth; Brother’s commitment to build a sustainable future. The contest is open to all quilt-makers in Asia Pacific with participants required to create a 70cm x 70cm original quilt using different methods of construction such as decoration or embroidery and showcase creative, original work. There are over $2,400 AUD in prizes to be awarded to the winning Australian entry, a Brother Innov-is NV1800Q sewing and quilting machine (RRP $1,799) and the revolutionary ScanNCut CM900 (RRP $699).

In addition, the top 10 quilts will join Asia Pacific entries in Tokyo and be part of the International Quilting Contest. A panel of Fashion College and Magazine Experts will judge all entries and award a collective prize pool in excess of $3,700 USD. Quilts may be used at Brother Events throughout 2016 and 2017 including the Brother booth at the famous Tokyo Quilt Show in 2017.

“Brother wants to encourage our talented quilting community to showcase their passion in an artwork that will resonate with the public and prompt thoughtful consideration around the topic of environmental sustainability. Personal interpretations of the theme in previous years has resulted in many outstanding works, with each work resonating its own unique message. Throughout 2016 all current international award winning quilts are being exhibited at Craft & Quilt shows around the nation, bringing further acclaim to our Australian prize winners and helping to inspire our local quilting and craft community,” stated Sherene Grace, Marketing Manager, Home Sewing Machines at Brother International Australia.

This year, Brother hopes local chapters of quilting guilds get behind the contest and help encourage their members to enter and showcase Australia’s formidable quilting talent on the international stage.

A competition package including application form and conditions of entry is now available for download on Brother Australia websitewww.brother.com.au/quiltingcontest.

Applications will close on 14th November 2016.
