MEDIA CALL: UNCOVER EXQUISITE ARTWORK, TAXIDERMY AND A HEROINE OF AUSTRALIAN HISTORY FOR A NOVEL MEDIA PREVIEW AT QUEENSLAND MUSEUM

Announcement posted by The Birdman's Wife 30 Sep 2016

WEDNESDAY 4TH OCTOBER: 10.30AM - 11.30AM, QUEENSLAND MUSEUM, SOUTH BRISBANE
Volunteer taxidermy training at Queensland Museum and the discovery of the ‘secret weapon’ behind John Gould’s Birds of Australia — his artist wife, Elizabeth — inspired Brisbane author Melissa Ashley to write a book that’s become one of THE most highly anticipated novels of 2016, attracting international interest.

The subject of a fierce publishing house auction, The Birdman’s Wife (Affirm Press, $32.99) gives voice to the talented adventurous spirit of Elizabeth Gould whose artistry breathed life into countless exotic finds, from her husband’s celebrated collections to Charles Darwin’s famous Galapagos finches. In a world obsessed with natural history and the discovery of new species, Elizabeth was at its glittering epicentre.

Join us at the Queensland Museum for an exclusive media preview to hear more from Melissa Ashley about the Brisbane connections behind the book, see Elizabeth Gould’s stunning work revealed from the archives and revel in some taxidermy with the resident expert!

This media preview heralds The Birdman's Wife national launch on Thursday 13th October at Avid Reader and  Melissa Ashley's national author tour to Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart. SEE OVER FOR MORE INFORMATION.
