Summery Aussie Christmas Table Styling Tips

Announcement posted by 360PR 02 Nov 2016

When it comes to Christmas, the Australian summer does not exactly fit in with the image of snow- covered trees, sleighs and woolly jumpers. So why not give your Christmas an Aussie twist? Justine Stedman, Director and Principal Stylist at Vault Interiors, shares her top tips for adding a summery Aussie Christmas vibe to your table styling this year.

Justine says, “As we approach Summer, we’ve seen the coastal chic trend become more and more popular in homes regardless of whether they are located near the beach or not! Coastal chic is all about relaxed, earthy and serene interiors, perfect for some Summery Christmas styling.

“Think sparkling wine, seafood platters and backyard cricket! The best way add this Aussie vibe to your table styling is to incorporate fun citrus pops of colour. This breaks the traditional coastal chic mould and gives a more contemporary and sleek look for an eclectic aesthetic!” adds Justine.

Justine’s top tips for Christmas table styling include:

1. Make a statement: A rustic wooden table with white chairs and brightly coloured placemats can make a strong impact.

2. Think cool and coastal: It’s a smart idea to keep your base colour palette on your tablescape nice and neutral. Keep to taupes, whites and all tones in between or use washed out greens and blues. Soft greys and warm wood tones take cues from beach pebbles and faded driftwood, creating the perfect look for the summery Aussie Chrissy. Bonus points if you can incorporate scatter cushions by your table seating in faded denim for the ultimate coastal chic look!

3. Add citrus pops of colour: Bold choices of accent colours can be incorporated against the backdrop of a neutral base which helps to create a more refined look and adds a WOW factor! Teal and navy paired with lemon and lime citrus tones make a fresh, bright interior colour palate for an Aussie Christmas.

4. Step outside the ordinary: Don’t be boring! Add colour pops through items such as napery and crockery such as jugs, glasses or even straws. A vase of fresh flowers also goes a long way – why not go for some native flowers in yellow and greens to add to the relaxed feeling and very appropriate for the occasion? If you have a light above your table, you can use it to create a focal point by hanging fairy lights, greenery or baubles from it.

5. Glam it up: Overall, coastal chic styling is quite casual but it can also be a little bit glam! It’s time to bring out your most interesting glassware objects such as old blue bottles, fish bowls filled with shells or large glass balls wrapped in twine. The key is to take all these elements; glass, silver, blues and textural objects like shells or rope and repeat them across and around the table.
