Eighteen months on from the devastating earthquakes in Nepal, which claimed nearly 9,000 lives and left 3.5 million homeless, efforts to repair the physical and emotional damage continue.

Perhaps best known for its smiling Sherpas and mountaineering, Nepal is actually the poorest country in South Asia with one in four young children in the workforce and an average life span of only 54 years. And that was before the 2015 earthquakes.

On April 10th of 2015, Toni Childs and her bank embarked on an amazing music trek in Nepal where they debuted her new album, It’s All a Beautiful Noise on Annapurna’s Poon Hill. ‘This global first event at 10,000ft was beyond epic, and will remain etched in our memory as a monumental moment in time for each and every one of us who were a part of it,’ comments Toni Childs

Toni continues; ‘We trekked a total of 11 days (April 10 to the 20th) on a small portion of the entire Annapurna Circuit. 52 people made up the trekking party: two guides and 25 porters carried almost all our gear up and down the mountain range: generators, electric guitars, keyboards, amps, and so much more.  Leaving Nepal on a high note, it would turn out we  left 36 hours before the first of two devastating earthquakes would hit, leaving the us all gutted with concern and bittersweet feelings for our trip and the Nepal Crew we left behind.

On their return to Australia Toni and many others gathered a little over a month later where they produced a massively successful Rebuild Nepal Benefit Concert in collaboration with the Crystal Castle and Shambala Gardens, the Byron Bay Community Radio Station – Bayfm in conjunction with CRN Community Radio Network across Australia, Biggs Sound, Renae Saxby Photography, and Oz Tix. This Rebuild Nepal Benefit Concert raised $50,000 on the night.

It didn’t stop there as inspiration struck to produce a book for the next fundraising faze after seeing the fantastic photos taken by Kurt Petersen Photography and Tahnee Woolf of their Rebuild Nepal Concert. The book feature photos from several photographers from both the Rebuild Nepal Benefit Concert, and our Annapurna Music Trek. In addition, a CD & DVD of the concert is inserted into the inside front and back panel of the book. Also included in the book is a CD (Featuring highlights from the Rebuild Nepal two hour Broadcast), and a DVD that features footage from their music trek, the Rebuild Nepal Benefit Concert at the Crystal Castle, and footage from Toni’s return trip to Nepal making it a very special remembrance for all.

‘The damage to this beautiful country is immense,’ says InHouse Publishing manager Ocean Reeve, ‘When we heard that Toni was looking for publishing assistance in bringing this book to life we immediately volunteered to come on board contributing time, effort, and finance to help our friends in Nepal.’ Utilising local and overseas connections Reeve managed the book production and distribution process and states, ‘We are extremely proud to be behind the scenes in making such an amazing impact for a the people of this majestic country. Often following such tragic events in our world, we tend to switch off weeks or months later as ‘life gets in the way’ and we carry on. However, life stops for the people of countries that don’t have the financial support or developing infrastructure to recover quickly and 18 months later the people of Nepal continue their attempts to rebuild.’

The book signing event on the 24th of November at InHouse Publishing’s bookstore in Underwood will be an exclusive one-off event for the general public to attend for free, meet Toni and purchase a signed copy of the book to support this fantastic effort to Rebuild Nepal. Doors open at 10am at 124 Kingston Road, Underwood with the event finishing at 1pm.
