Autism Spectrum Australia launches new inclusive Nippers website with SLSA

Announcement posted by Autism Spectrum Australia 10 Nov 2016

A resource for all families and surf life saving clubs to use to promote inclusivity for disabilities.

Surf Life Saving Australia and Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) have joined together to create a suite of resources for children and families with disabilities who are joining Nippers.

The ‘What We Do at Nippers’ program helps prepare children with disabilities for their first Nippers experience, as well as promote beach safety and inclusion activities. After a successful event with 60 children held in Northern NSW earlier this year, the inclusion resources are now available for all Surf Life Saving Clubs, parents and children to use online. The website includes videos, downloadable resources and visual supports.

“Our aim is to support the community, groups and organisations to be inclusive of all people with a disability. SLSA have welcomed this support with open arms and we are delighted by the inclusive resource we have been able to create together” says Jodi Rodgers, Autism Spectrum Australia.

“Inclusion is an attitude. It is about being an organisation where everyone feels welcome and valued. This starts from when a potential new member comes into contact with the club for the first time, through to the member actively participating in club activities ”said a spokesperson for Surf Life Saving Australia.

The website is now live and ready to use. Visit: http://www.inclusion.net.au
