Tackling the youth mental health problem
Its time to give back to today's youth.

Recent statistics show that:

  • One in 16 young Australians is currently experiencing depression
  • One in six young Australians is currently experiencing an anxiety condition
  • One in four young Australians currently has a mental health condition

That’s the equivalent of over 1.3 million young Australians with serious issues that need to be addressed, especially as suicide is the biggest killer of young Australians, even above that of car accidents.

Body image is a main contributor to mental health conditions in young Australians.

How much of this can we attribute to today’s media and the way it portrays body image to the public.  That perfect shape, that flawless skin.

It's common practice and taken for granted that photos are edited 99 percent of the time, but most still aspire to achieve the impossible.

Two people in Perth, Western Australia are trying to make a difference by launching a teen magazine with a goal of changing minds and attitude.

Focusing on real life issues and combining it with positive fashion images that promote a healthy body image.

Fearless Youth Magazine is aimed at educating young Australians to be happy with themselves the way they are, and if they have issues or concerns the magazine provides detailed help on many organisations that are there to assist them.

For many young people having the knowledge on where and how to get help is vital to tackling the problem in its early stages. Also educating parents to identify the signs that their child may be struggling is simply un-promoted.

Taking the magazine that step further it is using regular young Australians as the models for the magazine content to promote the magazines values.

The advert-free magazine will use profits from its sales to fund projects to help young Australians.

One of the magazine’s key future projects is to take to the stage at a major Fashion Festival in promoting healthy body image and in doing so creating exposure for the organisations and young Australians it supports.

Could this be the catalyst that not only changes mindset, but possibly changes the way the fashion industry portrays a healthy image to the general public.

Fearless youth is looking for people to pledge $10 to buy an electronic copy of the magazine.  This will enable them to import 2,500 printed copies and all profits from the sale will go towards funding projects to help young Australians.
