FarawayNZ Introduce the Aucka-Land Tee

Announcement posted by Faraway NZ 28 Nov 2016

FarawayNZ is about an ethos of uncompromising freedom and individuality, uncovered in unexpected ways, and they have just produced a tee print called Aucka-Land, based on the high number of Orca sightings recently in Auckland harbour.

At FarawayNZ they focus on the uniqueness of the New Zealand experience, and as a stop over for some of New Zealand’s very own species of Orca whales, they decided to celebrate the relationship that Auckland’s harbor, the sparkling Waitemata, has with these amazing creatures with a cool printed tee.

The Orcas of New Zealand are jet black, unlike their grey relatives in the Antarctic, and they have very distinctive white markings around their eyes, and not one of these patches is the same.

‘Wolves of the Sea’ are the largest member of the dolphin family and there are only around 200 Orcas living in New Zealand waters. They do not have a home patch, but more around from season to season in pods of two to four. They can kill sharks and whales, but there has been no record of one killing a human in the wild. They like to eat stingrays but have to be careful with the poisonous barbs. They grab the rays by the head or tail tip to avoid the barb halfway along the tail. They are also known to blow bubbles at rays to frighten them into moving.
