Announcement posted by Filtered Media | telling your story, brilliantly 30 Nov 2016

Welcomes drive to foster culture of new ideas and innovation throughout the NSW Government
Today at NSW Parliament House, at a luncheon hosted by the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), the nation’s peak member body for the ICT industry, NSW Minister for Innovation and Better Regulation, The Hon Victor Dominello, launched the NSW Government Innovation Strategy.

Minister Dominello outlined a nine-point plan that will strengthen entrepreneurship and harness NSW’s reputation as an innovation and economic leader.

Some of the key initiatives include the creation of a NSW Innovation Concierge (NIC) that will operate as a front door for entrepreneurs wishing to do business with the Government; the creation of a “Shark Tank” process through which select entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to pitch transformative ideas to the NSW Government; an Innovation Launch program to support incubating new ideas with funding in specified areas, the first of which is improving public transport access for people for disabilities; and Regulatory Sandboxes, in order to provide a safe harbour for innovation and risk in areas such as social innovation, agritech, blockchain or energy.

In response to the announcement, Rob Fitzpatrick, chief executive officer of the AIIA says:

“AIIA’s vision is to leverage digital technology to grow the opportunities for everyone. In line with this, the NSW Government’s Innovation Strategy is a clear commitment to attract innovators, support entrepreneurship, and embrace new ideas.

“These initiatives will make it easier for innovators to connect within and across NSW government and is an important step in improving collaboration between public and private sector.

“It’s great to see the NSW Government stepping up to deliver better customer service, better digital government, driving fast decision making across government, and raising their expectations to be an exemplar in the delivery of government services.

“The Government’s actions will help unleash the next era of digital creativity in NSW. AIIA is passionate about the potential opportunities and I call on industry to respond accordingly.”
