Announcement posted by SurfControl 10 Jan 2006

Australia is taking centre stage in high level tech development for Internet security company SurfControl, with Technical Manager Dr Richard Cullen appointed to chair the companys new Technical Strategy Council.
Located in Melbourne and reporting directly to SurfControl CEO Pat Sueltz in Scotts Valley, California, Cullen will be responsible for delivering a new technological vision for the internet security company.
Dr Cullen said the Council will allow SurfControl to formulate and execute high-level technology strategies on a global basis.
SurfControl must anticipate emerging threats, market movements and customer expectations to remain a world leading internet security company, Dr Cullen said.
Our job will be to read the tea leaves and develop strategies that reflect the changes were anticipating in the internet security space. The Council is really about getting the most from the knowledge we have.
Managing Director of SurfControl in Australia, Charles Heunemann, said the move would assist the company in taking an outward approach to developments in internet security.
Much of the analysis SurfControl does is focussed on analysis of threats that are already in the environment, Mr Heunemann said. Through the Council, the best of the best technical minds will focus on identifying the next wave of security threats, associated product methodologies and efficiency, as well as research and development.
Mr Heunemann congratulated Cullen on the appointment. Its fantastic to see an Australian take such a leading role. Richard has been a valued member of the team in Sydney for many years, he said.
Dr Cullen said the Council would link nine of SurfControls best minds, including Director of Research Neil Pollard in the UK and Davidi Hollander in Israel, lead engineer for SurfControls award-winning Enterprise Threat Shield product.
Cullen has moved to Melbourne to take up the role. Most recently, Cullen was SurfControls Technical Manager of Email Products and Technology. He has also held positions with Autodesk, the makers of AutoCAD, in Switzerland and Sophos in the UK.
Ive gone from looking at single lines of code, to leading SurfControls technical strategy at a global level. Its an exciting opportunity and Im looking forward to it, he said.
