SAI Global Champions International Data Privacy Day - 28 January

Announcement posted by SAI GLOBAL 25 Jan 2017

SAI Global strengthened its commitment to the mitigation of information security risk and safeguarding of data by becoming an Official National Cyber Security Alliance Data Privacy Day Champion.

Data Privacy Day, also known as Data Protection Day in Europe where it began in 2006, is an international initiative held on January 28 each year to create awareness about the importance of respecting an individual's privacy and safeguarding online data.

Participation in Data Privacy Day enables SAI Global to lend its voice to the global conversation around the challenges faced by individuals, organisations, businesses and government around consumer privacy and responsible use of data.

Mitigating digital and information security risk to support the protection of data privacy is an integral part of SAI Global's business and aligns with Data Privacy Day's goals to educate individuals and organisations on why privacy is good for business.  SAI Global offers market-leading Integrated Risk Management solutions to help organisations proactively manage risk throughout the entire lifecycle.

‘Active participation in Data Privacy Day provides SAI Global an opportunity to share our in-depth knowledge and expertise around the safeguarding of personal data in our digital world.  We’re delighted to support this growing global conversation around how we can improve individual and business consciousness toward respecting privacy, safeguarding data and enabling trust’ said Jan Kruger, SAI Global Executive Vice President of Risk and Advisory.

ABOUT DATA PRIVACY DAY:

Data Protection Day was established in 2006 by the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe to coincide with the anniversary of the opening of the Council of Europe's Convention 108 for the Protection of individuals with regard to the automatic processing of personal data.  This has been the cornerstone of data protection in Europe and beyond for more than 30 years. Data Protection Day activities within Europe remain officially led by the Council of Europe.

Data Privacy Day began in the United States and Canada in January 2008 as an extension of the Data Protection Day celebration in Europe. Data Protection Day commemorates the Jan. 28, 1981, signing of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection. The National Cyber Security Alliance, a nonprofit, public-private partnership promoting cyber security and privacy education and awareness, leads the effort in North America.
