From landscapes to moonscapes, from migration to memory and from the sea to the bush, ebb and flow is the latest exhibition from the untethered fibre artists that reimagines a familiar theme in an exciting range of fibre and textile mediums and techniques.

Both the gentle rhythms of life and the momentous shifts that shape our world and ourselves are represented in more than 40 works that tell social and environmental stories as ebb and flow travels from its premiere at Wallarobba Arts & Cultural Centre in Hornsby to Belconnen Arts Centre (and on its way to Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre in May).
On the opening night, a short address will be given by respected textile practitioner, writer, researcher and educator Valerie Kirk, who is currently Head of Textiles at Australian National University, School of Art.
At ebb and flow, an extraordinary array of fibre and textile techniques and mediums are on display in the form of hangings, wearables and sculptural works.
Stitch, print, felt, dye, embellish, weave, quilt, knit, patch, paint, wrap, mould, manufacture, fashion, shape, warp, melt, coil, fuse, collect, reuse… Materials include new and reclaimed fabrics, fibres of wool silk cotton flax linen, threads, yarns, wire, paper, acrylics, tape, plaster, plastic, beads, natural and synthetic dyes, wax, ceramics, neoprene, found objects.

untethered fibre artists was formed in 2014 from members of ATASDA (Australian Textile Arts & Surface Design Association), with the shared goals of challenging the perceived boundaries of fibre and textile art, and creating an environment for members to support and encourage each other’s art practices and personal growth as artists.
ATASDA is a national non-profit and voluntary organisation promoting and fostering textile and fibre arts; and interaction and co-operation between textile artists.
