Child Care Facility Director in Perth provides consumer information about Child Care Benefit eligibility.
Perth, WA 29 March 2017 - The Australian Government provides a Child Care Benefit or “CCB” to many Australian families in need of child care. It is paid directly to parents, grandparents, relationship parents and/or foster parents to help them make child care affordable. While many parents are eligible for the Child Care Benefit, it is subject to certain requirements.

Michelle Coleski is the director of Cuddles Childcare Centres, who provide child care in three centrally-located Perth suburbs. According to Ms Coleski:

“We have watched the Child Care Benefit help numerous Perth area families afford child care. We decided it would be helpful, so we recently provided a guide to Child Care Benefit eligibility on our blog. A lot of people who think they aren’t eligible end up being eligible and saving a lot of money on their child care costs.”

Child Care Benefit: the Basics

There are some basic requirements for being eligible for the Child Care Benefit. The parent or the parent’s partner must be an Australian citizen. In addition, permanent Australian residents are eligible, as are those who are exempt from the residency requirement. The children must be immunised up to the age of 19 unless they have an exemption from vaccination.

In addition, The person applying for child care must be the person who is responsible for paying for the child care. That disqualifies those who are receiving funds for child care from work or from any other agency.

There are certain conditions that can provide families with exemptions from the requirements. For example, a parent with a child who is less than 21 years of age lives with the parent and receives a Disability Support Pension can be eligible for the Child Care Benefit.

What Determines the Child Care Benefit?

The Child Care Benefit is determined by a number of factors. These include: household income, the type of child care the child is receiving, the number of hours being spent in child care, the number of children who are being cared for and the reason for the child care.

Work, Training, Study Test

Parents applying for child care must pass the “Work, Training, Study Test.” Usually, both partners must be working, training or studying 15 hours a week or 30 hours a fortnight to receive the maximum benefit of 50 hours of child care.

According to Ms Coleski: “The Child Care Benefit is a wonderful resource. We always encourage all of our parents to find out exactly what they are eligible for. There are also other programs that can help. For those who want to use the extra effort, it is possible to have affordable or even free child care, depending upon one’s circumstances.”

Ms Coleski concluded: “No matter what your financial situation, if you need child care, we recommend finding out exactly what you are eligible for. It may be a lot more than you think.”
