Syncdocs Protects Google Drive from Data Breaches

Announcement posted by Syncdocs 29 Mar 2017

Secure Google Drive and G-Suite with full end-to-end Encryption

Almost 1.4 billion data records were stolen by hackers or lost during 2016. This is around double the number which were comprised in 2015 and highlight the growing threat posed by cyberattackers, accidental data breaches and malicious insiders.

Hackers account for just over two thirds of the breaches which occurred during 2016. Accidental loss of data accounts for 19 percent of incidents in which data was compromised. Ten percent were as a result of malicious employees.

While most cloud providers like Google provide encryption of data on the wire through SSL or HTTPS, none actually encrypt the data on their own servers. This allows them to scan customer files and email for certain keywords and use this for customer profiling and generating advertising revenue.

Documents stored by businesses in Google’s Apps (G Suite) are also not stored with at-rest encryption. This means hackers, disgruntled employees and even Google staff can easily scan and view sensitive data.

Crucial business data can not only be stolen, but files can also be altered by malicious third parties.

Syncdocs for Google Drive is a tool that solves these problems. It provides full end-to-end encryption of Google Drive. Data is transparently decrypted when it is downloaded or viewed. Files are protected by proper AES-256 encryption and a password independent of any online password.

Data are encrypted locally and no non-encrypted data or credentials ever leave the local network. This means that should your Google account be hacked, then data inside it is useless to hackers.

Syncdocs for Google Drive also provides tamper detection on files. This leaves a full audit trail and allows for file authentication, proving cryptographically that a certain user made changes.

A fully functional evaluation version is available for download and unlimited licences cost $19.95 per user. Free for educational and charity licences are also available.
