Sun Services To Use Compuware's Java Platform Development Environment OptimalJ(tm) , To Speed Time-To-Value For Enterprise Applications

Announcement posted by Bass PR 18 Apr 2003

OptimalJ automatically generates working applications that can be customised by developers. Incorporating Sun's J2EE Patterns into OptimalJ means these applications will comply with Sun's J2EE pattern standards, making the creation of J2EE technology-based applications simpler and faster.
OptimalJ is Compuware's high-productivity, model-driven, pattern-based tool for developing J2EE technology-based applications. It will help Sun's consultants to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of enterprise Java development. It implements the Object Management Group's (OMG) Model Driven Architecture (MDA) in its entirety. OptimalJ uses patterns to automatically generate code that transforms models into a proper architecture and ultimately into a working application.

J2EE patterns, which are used to create J2EE technology-based applications, describe solutions to typical problems encountered by developers. They express proven techniques clearly and simply, reducing the complexity of J2EE technology development by automating reuse of successful designs and architectures.
"Developer productivity can be improved by using tools that help developers to work with J2EE technology," said Rikki Kirzner, Research Director at IDC. "The ability to develop specific patterns containing specialised knowledge, which can be reused throughout the company, goes a long way towards assisting architects in creating and maintaining an individual style.
Developers can then focus on what needs to be built rather than how it should be built."
"Combining Sun's proven J2EE patterns with OptimalJ's model-driven development environment and automatic code generation can significantly speed development and deployment of high-quality enterprise-class applications," said Cheryln Chin, Vice President, Software Solutions, Sun Professional Services. "The combination gives our consultants a very advanced tool they can use to implement best practices in Java platform development projects."
"Sun Services is very influential in the way companies are using the Java platform," said Don Morrison, Compuware Vice President, Worldwide Channels and Alliances. "Working together, Sun and Compuware are advancing the state of Java technology development, which will accelerate the design, development, modification and deployment of J2EE business applications."
