If you are currently building a new home or buying an existing property, it is always advised to enlist the services of an independent building inspector. They can detect defects that the average homeowner could easily miss, possibly resulting in expensive rectification works. 

In Western Australia, the contract of sale is typically signed subject to a structural building inspection.
