Home Renovation Professionals Provide a Guide to Getting Started

Announcement posted by Next Level Extensions 05 May 2017

Home renovation professionals in Perth reveal what must be considered before renovating a home.
Perth, WA, 05 May 2017 - Home renovation is popular, both in Perth and across Australia. Due to the proliferation of home improvement shows on TV, there can be a perception that everyone with a home wants to become a home renovator.

Recently, home renovation professional Craig Johns, owner of Next Level Extensions in Perth, posted a guide on his company blog to help amateur home renovators get started on their projects. According to Mr Johns:

“Everyone means well, but inadequate preparation can wreak havoc on home renovations. I felt it would be a good idea to let people know about some of the things they need to consider when undertaking a home renovation.”

The first recommendation is to get a home inspection done by a professional before starting. Experienced inspectors or builders can save a homeowner a lot of time, money and effort if they find something that the homeowner wouldn’t have noticed that could affect the quality of the renovation.

Mr Johns also recommends a thorough inspection of plumbing and air conditioning. Often, people install new kitchen and bathroom appliances and fixtures but don’t make sure the plumbing can handle them. This can result in a mess that can do damage to the home. Air conditioning malfunctions can cause mould to collect in a home. This can affect both quality of life and resale value.

Mr Johns also recommends buying energy efficient appliances for the kitchen. They save on energy costs and also can add to a home’s resale value. At the very least, energy efficient appliances can lessen the time a home is on the market. He also recommends energy efficient doors and windows to save on heating and cooling costs.

Mr Johns is a firm believer in DIY (do it yourself) projects as long as the homeowner is able to complete them properly. Painting and landscaping are homeowner-friendly projects that can increase both quality of life and resale value of a home.

However, Mr Johns also recommends leaving the “heavy lifting” to home renovation professionals. According to Mr Johns:

“I like and respect people who want to do their own home renovations. But if you aren’t a professional or a project manager with access to professional tradies, there are more pitfalls than benefits when performing major renovations on your home.”

Mr Johns continued: “Professionals who do home renovations for a living are much better at it than even a talented amateur. They are experienced in solving problems that seem to arise during every home renovation. They can do structural work on your home that you can trust to maintain its integrity for the life of the home.”

Mr Johns concluded: “Small home renovations make great projects. But if you need major home renovations, always call a professional. You will save time, money and effort in the long run.”
