Educational Publishing Awards Australia Announce New Chief Judge: Angela Carbone

Announcement posted by Australian Publishers Association 20 Jun 2017

Melbourne, Australia–20 June 2017–The Australian Publishers Association (APA) is delighted to announce the appointment of a new Chief Judge for the 2017 Educational Publishing Awards Australia (EPAA).

Angela Carbone, Associate Professor and Director of Education Excellence at Monash University, replaces the late Professor Mike Horsley, who co-founded the awards and was Chief Judge from their inception in 1994. In taking on the role, Angela will be responsible for upholding Professor Horsley’s legacy of ensuring the validity and reliability of the judging process so that EPAA continues to recognise pedagogical excellence and industry innovation.

Angela brings more than 25 years of experience to the role and a number of accomplishments, including winning the highly prestigious Prime Minister’s Award for University Teacher of the Year in 1998. She has a track record for driving transformational change focused on achieving academic excellence, and is an active member of the academic community, including chairing university panels for Vice Chancellors’ and Australian government awards.

The APA's selection committee commented, “We chose Angela because we felt excited and challenged by her questions and ideas for the awards going forward, particularly her focus on proving the effectiveness of learning resources.”

With a lifelong passion for improving education, and belief in the value of awards such as the EPAA, the role of Chief Judge was a natural fit. Angela said, “This role allows me to evaluate educational resources that are currently being used or will be used by the next generation, which is a crucial part in improving the learning experience of students.”

The 24th annual EPAA will be held on 20th September 2017 at The Pavilion, Arts Centre Melbourne. The night celebrates excellence and innovation in the educational publishing industry, including cutting-edge digital resources. More information about the awards can be found at www.edpubawards.com.
