Announcement posted by KAZ Group 01 Apr 2006
KAZ, Telstras ICT and IP services subsidiary, today announced the launch of PC Backup, a hosted managed service that provides businesses the ability to securely backup and restore data on their PC or laptop. Developed for market by KAZ with technology partner EMC, the managed service is delivered over Telstras network to data centres in Sydney and Melbourne.
Mike Foster, CEO of KAZ said, This is an excellent example of bringing together KAZs ICT know-how and Telstras network infrastructure to enable companies to manage their risk and to recognise they can be crippled overnight by failure to protect valuable information assets.
In view of our own recent natural disaster in Queensland, its now more important than ever to have in place appropriate recovery measures to protect the valuable corporate data that resides on enterprise desktop and mobile PCs.
Approximately 60% of corporate data resides on desktops and laptops, according to a global based researcher. The loss of corporate information and data can result in damage to reputation with the loss of valuable intellectual data. PC Backup allows companies to restore operations and ensure availability of information following interruption to critical business processes.
EMC is providing the hardware platform that supports the managed services offering from KAZ, including the technology that drives the PC Backup solution, said Jordan Reizes, EMC Marketing Director for Australia and New Zealand.
We make sure the information is stored, backed-up and protected and ensure that critical business data is captured at the desktop.
The USAs Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 was enacted, following high profile corporate scandals such as Enron, to protect the interests of workers and shareholders. PC Backup is another application which assists US corporations in Australia to comply with the many requirements of Sarbanes-Oxley in Australia.
On the other hand, Australian boards and senior management must consider continuity risks and controls as part of the business overall risk management framework when completing the risk management declaration provided to APRA on an annual basis.
The new private sector Privacy Legislation which became law in 2001 requires most organisations in Australia to protect the personal information they hold from misuse and loss from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
PC Backup requires no capital expenditure as its a subscription-based model with a number of plans to suit the business needs - features include:
Rapid, automatic backup by PC users data including email.
No upfront investment in infrastructure.
Suits organisations of any size and even mobile users.
Quick and easy restoration of damaged, corrupted, lost or overwritten files.
Compressed over-the-network backups and restoration using DeltaBlockand Send Once technology.
Instant retrieval of lost or damaged files.
Simplifies PC data migration.
Users only need an internet connection with broadband covered in real time, providing freedom to work when and where they want.
Portal for customer administrators to perform adds, moves, changes and reporting for their users.
