Going..Going..Gone!
Stuff.com.au acts as chief auctioneer for 3000 new domain names
From shopping.com.au to computers.com.au, more than 3000 previously unavailable com.au domain names are now on offer to the public, and Australia's first online auction site, Stuff.com.au, has been chosen by auDA, Australia's Internet domain name industry regulator, to host the application for bidding rights.
Over 4800 applications for the generic names have been received through www.stuff.com.au, since the application for bidding rights began on 18 December 2001. Small businesses and large corporations have all been busily applying for the rights to bid on the domain names, previously unavailable, as they were originally perceived to offer an unfair competitive advantage to the registrant.
Developed by Sydney-based web developer HotHouse, www.stuff.com.au has established itself as a leader in the online auction arena since launching in 1999, and was chosen by auDA to host the bid application and auction system for its flexible infrastructure, proven expertise and reliable software.
Many more bids are expected in the final week of auctions, with the door closing for applications at 5:00pm (AEST) 31 January 2002. The list of available domain names can be viewed at http://www.stuff.com.au/auda.asp.
