MEDIA RELEASE | HOTA PRESENTS THE GOLD COAST’S FIRST ANNUAL ROOTS MUSIC FESTIVAL

Announcement posted by M10 Collective 13 Nov 2019

This December, HOTA, Home of the Arts is presenting the Gold Coast’s first Roots Music Festival featuring a star-studded lineup of artists.
The often undefined genre of roots encompasses soul, blues, reggae and folk, with the diverse line up of artists ready to set the scene for a perfect Sunday afternoon of sunshine, family and great music.

With a line up of talented artists including Bobby Alu, Band of Frequencies, Karl S Williams, Little Georgia and Sarah Howells on the DJ decks, HOTA CEO Criena Gehrke, said she is thrilled to host the first annual Roots Music Festival at HOTA.

“This event is a great fit for HOTA,” said Criena. “It’s a great opportunity to bring the family down to celebrate local musical talent, food and beverage, and cultural diversity.”

The Festival will kick off with Australian folk-rock duo Little Georgia. Made up of collaborators, Justin Carter and Ashleigh Mannis, Little Georgia are known for delivering powerful live performances and moving audiences with beautiful harmonies and moving lyrics.

Visitors will then be profoundly moved by the powerful voice of Karl S Williams whose music is a combination of folk, soul and blues, but not as you know it. Karl’s distillation of life, love and the human condition are felt through his moving lyrics and vocals that can soar, moan and ache with the best of them.

No stranger to the HOTA stage - Bobby Alu’s smooth harmonies and rhythms will leave guests feeling as though they’re chilling out beachside. His unassuming grooves and toe-tapping tunes will serve as a gentle reminder for everyone to take it easy and enjoy the ride.

Music aficionado and the voice of the roots music scene in Australia for nine years and counting, Sarah Howells, will be on the DJ decks during the festival. Best known for her broadcasting history on triple j and Double J, and touring the country at major festivals with her DJ sets – playing all genres of dance through to roots and beyond.

Closing the festival is Band of Frequencies with their signature blend that encompasses  roots, rock, electric and psychedelic styles. These progressive surf rockers have toured all over the world and are set to close the festival with a bang.

The Roots Music Festival will take place in the Lakeside Room at the Home of the Arts on Sunday, December 1st 2019 at 5pm. Doors open from 3pm.
