100 new Victorian ICT jobs to be created by Anite International as it opens its Asia Pacific head office in Melbourne
Anite International specialises in providing software solutions and services to the law enforcement, telecommunications, travel and Government sectors. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of UK based firm Anite Group Plc.
Martyn Phillips, Managing Director for Anite International - Asia Pacific, said the company was eager to pursue the many business opportunities that exist in the region and leverage off the success experienced in the UK and Europe.
?Our decision to establish permanent operations in Asia Pacific was prompted by a major contract win with the Victorian Office of Housing in October last year,? Phillips explained. ?It reinforced the types of opportunities available in line with our vision for expansion into the region. It will also enable us to build a core team of more than 100 staff by mid 2004.?
The contract will see Anite International develop and deliver a unique web based IT system, using Microsoft?s .NET platform, which will better manage Victoria?s 72,000 public housing properties and help the Office of Housing meet the needs of tenants more quickly.
Phillips continued: ?The housing project was the largest ICT tender to be awarded by the Victorian Government in 2002 and is worth $30 million over seven years. We saw enormous value to the business in utilising Victoria?s talented pool of IT resources for this project.?
Information and Communication Technology Minister, the Honourable Marsha Thomson, said Anite?s decision to ?set-up-shop? in Victoria was a major windfall for the state. ?It?s a great endorsement of the ICT industry in Victoria that Anite International has decided to open its Asia Pacific office here as well as open a development centre,? Minister Thomson said.
With revenue targets of $14 million in this financial year (ending April 2004), Anite International - Asia Pacific?s operations look set to grow rapidly.
Anite International is one of the first companies to receive assistance from the recently launched Victoria .NET Cluster, funded by the Victorian Government under the Next Wave Program and sponsored by Microsoft. The cluster is a collaboration of a number of companies including software vendors and developers.
Frank Arrigo, Group Manager, .NET Ecosystem for Microsoft Australia said: ?Anite International?s launch into the Asia Pacific market is a great example of how, together with industry partners, Microsoft is supporting the growth of the local ecosystem. The Victoria .NET cluster benefits Victorian companies, large and small by providing a business network with international experience and local expertise. It?s hugely exciting to be working with Anite International here in Victoria and seeing the local ISV community grow.?
Anite International?s Asia Pacific head office will be launched on Wednesday 20 August 2003 from 6.30pm to 9.00pm at The Melbourne Aquarium?s Billabong Room.
