APNIC looks to SolarWinds solutions for deeper network insights
BRISBANE and AUSTIN, TX – March 24, 2011 – SolarWinds, Inc. (NYSE: SWI), a leading provider of powerful and affordable IT management software, today announced a deal with the Asia Pacific Network Information Centre (APNIC) that will give the Regional Internet Registry deeper insights into its network monitoring and reporting.
APNIC is the not-for-profit member organization that provides Internet addressing services across the Asia Pacific region, which includes growing numbers to accommodate rapidly expanding Internet use in China and India. APNIC has more than 3,200 account holders in 56 economies throughout the region and the organization has 65 staff at the head office in Brisbane. In the first quarter of 2010 alone, APNIC distributed a record 27 million IPv4 Internet addresses.
APNIC purchased SolarWinds’ Orion Network Performance Monitor (NPM) and Orion NetFlow Traffic Analyzer (NTA) solutions to improve monitoring and reporting on its network, which spans three sites in Australia and additional sites in Japan, Hong Kong and the USA.
APNIC’s Senior Network Engineer Amante Alvaran said, “Since so many people throughout the Asia Pacific depend on us, it is crucial that our services like Reverse DNS and the Whois Database be online and accessible at all times. The APNIC High Availability initiative is focused on maintaining a strong focus on redundancy, availability, and efficiency of our services".
“To achieve this we need to have the best available monitoring system to accomplish all this, and I am confident that the new SolarWinds solutions will give us good visual information on our infrastructure, as well visibility into the data flowing in and out of our network,” Alvaran said.
SolarWinds’ purpose-built suite of IT management solutions offers IT professionals a comprehensive and easy to understand view of their infrastructure’s health – from network, storage, application and server, and virtualisation performance management. Users can view the real-time statistics and availability of their IT environment both physical and virtual from any web browser.
APNIC is an open, membership-based, not-for-profit organization. It is one of five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) charged with ensuring the fair distribution and responsible management of IP addresses and related resources. These resources are required for the stable and reliable operation of the global Internet. As part of this service, the APNIC Secretariat is responsible for maintaining the public APNIC Whois Database and managing reverse DNS zone delegations.
APNIC is also actively involved in the development of Internet infrastructure throughout the region. This includes providing training and education services, supporting technical activities such as root server deployments, and collaborating with other regional and international organizations.
