D-Link Shipping Compact 5-Bay Network Storage Solution For Small-To-Medium Businesses

D-Link xStack DSN-1100-10 iSCSI SAN Array Offers 5 Terabytes Storage Capacity Or More

SYDNEY, Aust. -- November 18, 2009 -- D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for business and consumers, today announced it is now shipping a powerful solution for the growing data storage needs of small-to-medium sized businesses.

The new D-Link® xStack® DSN-1100-10 5-bay iSCSI Storage Area Network (SAN) Array enclosure is capable of holding up to 5 terabytes of data or more. Each bay accommodates one 3.5 inch SATA drive, currently offering up to 1TB and even higher capacity when larger disks are introduced and firmware updates are made available.

This fast storage solution is targeted to small-to-medium sized businesses (SMBs) whose near-line storage is full or near capacity, and who want to supplement their primary backup and recovery device, or need to add more comprehensive network storage management.

"iSCSI SANs can leverage the Ethernet infrastructure and standards that are already familiar to IT staff so there is no additional training needed, making them ideal for SMBs," said Maurice Famularo, Marketing Director for D-Link Australia and New Zealand. "By utilising existing Ethernet technology, the cost associated with separate host adapters and the per-Gigabyte cost for storage is also significantly reduced."

The DSN-1100-10 is designed with the same advanced System-on-a-Chip (SoC) technology included in D-Link's DSN-3000 family of high capacity SAN arrays but is housed in an elegant, compact desktop chassis. The internal 10 Gigabit iSCSI SoC configuration makes it possible for the DSN-1100-10 to handle more than 80,000 input/outputs per second and combines both networking and storage functions on one silicon chip.

To meet SMBs' needs, The DSN-1100-10 features an embedded, user-friendly IP-SAN Device Manager (IDM), a suite of Web-based utilities that allow monitoring and control via the Storage Management Initiative-Specification (SMI-S) command set. Combined with an embedded secure server, D-Link's newest storage enclosure allows users to remotely configure and monitor their SAN storage subsystems, easing the task of network storage management.

The DSN-1100-10 implements four 1-gigabit ports, supporting industry-standard IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregate Groups (LAG) for full offload capability. This allows all four ports to be grouped together for up to 425 megabytes per second bandwidth, increasing throughput and redundancy. Maximum storage reliability and efficiency also is achieved by support of RAID Level 0, 1, 1+0 and 5 configurations, giving SMBs a range of redundancy options.

Both Online Capacity Expansion and RAID Level Migration are performed with minimal impact on users. For example, a mirror volume of two drives can easily be converted to a parity volume of three or more drives while users continue to access the data they store.

Other key features include:
* Compact Cube Chassis for easy placement (273mm deep, 167mm wide and 259mm high);
* 200-watt power supply;
* CHAP authentication to halt intruders;
* SSL security to manage console;
* SATA-II support;
* Up to 72 hours battery backup on full charge;
* VLAN zoning for traffic segregation to secure access and jumbo frames; and
* Highly integrated multi-core SoC for greater power efficiency.
