DISCOVER AUSTRALIA WITH PERTH MINT PLATINUM SERIES
The Perth Mint has launched its highly anticipated 2012 Discover Australia platinum proof coin series featuring five new iconic designs.
With Australia’s diverse landscape, and unique flora and fauna popular draw cards for visitors to the continent and residents, The Perth Mint has ensured that each element is superbly portrayed in the popular collector program.
The success of the Discover Australia brand spans six years, since the late ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Steve Irwin launched the program in 2006.
“Our Discover Australia series continues to reflect the country’s beautiful wildlife and stunning scenery,” said Perth Mint Sales and Marketing Director, Ron Currie.
“Furthermore, recent demand for platinum coins has been quite strong, so with no more than 1,000 of each design being released, we anticipate that the coins will generate great interest among collectors”, he continued.
The 2012 designs of the silver, gold and now platinum releases each portray distinctive artistry of five Australian animals. They include the Red Kangaroo, the Kookaburra, the Green and Gold Bell Frog, the Goanna and the Whale Shark. Each creature is also crafted against a coloured representation of its natural habitat.
Struck from 1/10oz of 99.95% pure platinum in proof quality, the new releases all feature the inscription DISCOVER AUSTRALIA along with the name of the animal. The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, and the 2012 year-date.
The obverse of each coin bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.
Priced at $345.00 for an individual 2012 Discover Australia 1/10oz platinum coin and $1,725.00 for a complete 1/10oz platinum five-coin set, each collectable is presented in a display case featuring a timber lid and stylised shipper.
