Discover the Elements of Islay at Shirt Bar, Sydney
Monday July 9, Sydney – Sydney’s Shirt Bar will host a tasting session of recently released Elements of Islay Scotch whiskies on Wednesday July 18.
The Elements of Islay single malt Scotch whiskies that will be featured are the Bn2 (Bunnahabhain) Br2 (Bruichladdich) and Pe5 (Port Ellen). Elements of Islay’s Australian importer Ben Baranow will lead the session, providing more insight into the Elements of Islay range.
Elements of Islay whiskies are bottled either as single casks or as individual batches of between five and twenty casks from a single Islay distillery. They are bottled at full proof to maintain their original cask flavor and each bottle shows the distillery’s ‘element’ symbol alongside a batch number on the label.
Ben Baranow notes that the beauty of the Elements of Islay range is that it is simply about the quality of the whisky. “By not making age statements, blenders can marry casks of different ages together and create distinct taste profiles for each batch. The Bn2, Br2 and Pe5 are very special whiskies and I’m anticipating that they will be very well-received.”
Shirt Bar’s owner Adam Hofbauer is looking forward to showcasing a relatively new range of single malt whiskies. “The Elements of Islay whiskies take a fresh approach in terms of presentation and the whisky itself. Whisky lovers are in for a real treat.”

The medicinal, ‘almost’ elemental character of the Islay malt whiskies was the inspiration for choosing the traditional medical laboratory bottle and for using an ‘element’ symbol and batch number (eg Lp1) to depict each distillery in the label design for ‘The Elements of Islay’. Coincidentally, even the bottle that sets Elements of Islay apart from other traditional single malt bottles, is called ‘pharmacy’
The individual whiskies with the Elements of Islay range are bottled either as single casks or as individual batches of between five and twenty carefully selected casks from a single Islay distillery.
