Cafe2U Franchisee Giving to Receive
On Saturday the 19th of May, the Cafe2U banner was held high at the Grand Opening of the Wayside Chapel which marked the completion of revamping the building. Michael Dolahenty from Cafe2U Cromer-Dee Why contributed to this wonderful cause by donating his services and making coffees during the event. A gold coin donation was given back to Wayside Chapel for all coffees sold. This was made possible with the additional support of Parmalat and Cafe2U.
Five years ago, the future for Wayside Chapel which had serviced Sydney’s homeless since 1964 held no hope and was at risk of closing down. The Wayside Chapel Building had been condemned and considered dangerous and was in desperate need of renovation.
A determined fund-raising drive was put in place to raise funds for this project and sufficient funding for the revamp was provided by several parties including state and federal governments, as well as private and corporate donors.
Cafe2U Cromer-Dee Why has played an active role in contributing towards the fundraising at Wayside Chapel. Michael Dolahenty and his lovely wife Maricor offered their services at the Wayside Chapel Christmas Event in December 2011 where they made over 400 cups of coffee for all attendees at the party. It was here that Cafe2U Cromer-Dee Why became so popular and was invited back for the Grand Opening.
For the Grand Opening the streets were closed and there was a great party atmosphere. A variety of activities took place on the day and included tours of the refurbished building, lunch, engaging and uplifting performances by the Honeybees Choir with street dancers dancing in the street at the end of the day. Some top celebrities were also present and actress Claudia Karvan was the Master of Ceremonies.
“For me this is one of the best parts of being a Franchise Partner with Cafe2U. It allows me to give a little bit back to organisations and charities and help those who are not so well-off in our community” says Michael Dolahenty, Cafe2U Cromer-Dee Why, NSW.
To add to this, Michael claims that he has received one of the best gifts ever … the gift of truly making a difference in someone else’s life, no matter how big or small the donation – every bit counts.
