Sydney and Auckland, August 17, 2009Hitachi Data Systems Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) and the only provider of Services Oriented Storage Solutions, today launched online public voting for its second annual IT Inspiration Awards. The awards create an interactive platform to delve into the challenges and solutions pertaining to the proliferation of data with industry experts and decision-makers.

Hitachi Data Systems IT Inspiration Awards 2009 ignites a spirit of healthy competition that is welcomed by the enterprise IT community in Asia Pacific. Driven by the success of the inaugural awards in 2008, this year has seen a significant rise in the number of nominations received—138 nominations from over 70 organisations across the region.

The competitiveness of the IT Inspiration Awards demonstrates the value it brings to the IT industry and community. Last year’s competition witnessed enterprises like Vigabyte in Australia for most innovative use of technology and TelstraClear in New Zealand for Best Virtualisation Strategy.  

The awards categories are a showcase of inspiring, innovative storage technology and thought leadership and the participation of the IT community through the public voting mechanism will set the benchmark of IT excellence that contributes to the IT industry.

 

“The current crisis is a wake-up call for enterprises to improve existing business models. The sharing of knowledge and success stories made possible by the awards platform will be truly beneficial to the industry. This year's awards categories will set new benchmarks, bring new insights and most importantly be an ideal learning opportunity for companies to succeed in the uncertain economy,” said Neville Vincent, Managing Director for Australia and New Zealand.

The call for entries was initiated in July this year and public voting for the nominees starts today and closes on October 16. 2009. The winners will be selected through a mix of public voting and a judging panel comprising of qualified judges from Hitachi Data Systems, IDC and Gartner. Voters can cast their vote for each of the categories online at the specially-created website to support the awards. Votes stand a chance to win exciting prizes of LCD television sets.

The launch of the online voting is in conjunction with the launch of the first Hitachi Data Systems Asia Pacific blog. Hosted by key solution champions from the Asia Pacific Solutions and Products Group of Hitachi Data Systems, the blog is an interactive platform to discuss key technologies, market insights and trends pertaining to the storage industry. It will offer an in-depth perspective on Hitachi Data Systems initiatives that are rolled out globally and in the region and promote the creation of a vibrant storage community.
