Sydney, Australia, 27th June, 2012: According to a new survey, more and more Australians are supporting the idea of skilled migration to Australia. With the help of foreign workers, they are looking ways to address labour shortages. However, they are also opposed to the large scale of foreign investment.

According to the polling done by Lowy Institute, it was found that around 62% of people were in support of using skilled migration for a temporary basis as long as local employees are not available. Thereafter, it was announced by the federal government that they would be permitting 1,700 foreign workers to be employed in an iron ore project in Western Australia. The managing director of one of Australia’s biggest mining and construction companies says that foreign skilled migrants are more in need as comparatively as Australians do not prefer moving to the mining areas.

But the executive director of the institute, Lowy Institute, also indicates that many local people are worried of foreigner’s migration to Australia as they fear that they would buy Australian assets. It does not matter what information is provided through the survey or polls. Australia is benefitting from the trade and investment links it has established with the United States and China. It is definitely helping in the growth of the economy.
