SCO Announces SCOoffice Server For Linux

New SCOoffice Server to provide easy-to-use backoffice solutions for SMBs

The SCO(r) Group (Nasdaq: SCOX), a leading provider of Linux and UNIX business software solutions, has announced the development of SCOoffice Server, a complete backoffice software suite for small-to-medium businesses (SMBs). SCOoffice Server, expected to ship during Q2 this year, will include SCO Linux 4.0, SCOoffice Mail Server 2.0 and SCOoffice Base Server. The new product is designed to allow SMBs to easily set up, manage and administer their network without requiring technical knowledge of Linux.
"As companies turn away from Microsoft's restrictive and costly licensing policies and look for backoffice alternatives, SCO will have a low-cost suite offering that customers will find appealing," said Kieran O'Shaughnessy, SCO's regional general manager for Australia and New Zealand. "SCOoffice Server will appeal to SMBs for its simple, easy-to-use graphical interface, its reliability and its lower total cost of ownership."
The specific components of SCOoffice Server include:
* SCO Linux 4.0 Base Edition - Based on the recently released UnitedLinux distribution, SCO Linux 4.0 provides customers with enterprise level Linux scalability, reliability and performance with the support of major industry hardware and software vendors including AMD, CA, HP, IBM, Intel, Oracle, SAP and many others.
* SCOoffice Mail Server 2.0 - SCOoffice Mail Server is a compatible, reliable and secure mail server engineered for the small-to-medium size business environment. It reduces the costs of running a mail system through low licensing costs and simple management. It comes pre-configured to support mail, address book and calendar features of popular mail clients including Outlook, Eudora, SendMail and several other popular mail programs. It provides complete collaboration with shared calendars, folders, discussion groups and address books. It runs on OpenLinux, SCO Linux (and other UnitedLinux based distributions) or UnixWare 7.1.x platforms. SCOoffice Mail Server also integrates with third party tools, including popular backup and anti-virus solutions.
* SCOoffice Base Server - SCOoffice Base Server provides customers with an easy-to-use interface to configure printers, file sharing, networks (DHCP and DNS), etc. The server is designed to easily allow office managers to add users and set up their network with minimal effort, taking much of the complexity out of using Linux.
