As proof mounts that carbon emissions are affecting the environment, the regional 2008 FuturArc Forum series, held March 27-28 in Sydney, shone a spotlight on sustainable building practices in the architectural and construction industries. The 2008 Green Building Market Report, released at the Sydney FuturArc Event on Friday, found that 85% of the Australian architects, engineers, contractors and building owners surveyed have been involved in green building projects to date. The report surveyed over 1,200 architects, contractors, building developers and owners in Australia, South East Asia and China, and has found the key driver of sustainable design across all countries surveyed is ‘being part of an industry that values the environment’ (73%). 77% of Australian respondents mentioned that ‘rising energy prices’ are a key consideration in their use of sustainable design.
