Ausgezeichnet: Das Set 900 von Sennheser gewinnt internationale Design-Preise The Whisper of the Stars in SiberiaArtist Juergen Staack makes recordings at the coldest inhabited place on earth
Wedemark/Berlin, 27 February 2013 – It all began with a documentary on the TV arts channel “arte” about the world’s coldest inhabited place, Oymyakon in the far east of Russia. The programme also mentioned “ice whispering”, a phenomenon that occurs when people breathe and speak in extremely low temperatures. The breath immediately freezes, generating a crackling noise that follows the speaker like a shadow. Fascinated by the idea that words turn into crystals with a sound of their own, the artist Juergen Staack travelled to Yakutia in 2012, accompanied by his artist colleague Thomas Neumann. The sound recordings that Staack brought back with him will be on display until 1 March in the exhibition entitled SAKHA at the Konrad Fischer Galerie in Berlin. On his acoustic hunt to record the rare phenomenon of ice whispering – which the natives call “the whisper of the stars” – Juergen Staack took along a SENNHEISER MKH 8060 RF condenser microphone as part of his equipment.
The journey to the Pole of ColdWith financial support from the Arts Foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia, Staack and Neumann set off for Yakutsk, the capital city of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), in January 2012. The minus 35°C that confronted them at the airport was just a foretaste of the temperatures awaiting them at their actual destination, Oymyakon. In 1926, a temperature of minus 71.2°C is said to have been measured there, qualifying the village for the title of “Pole of Cold”. The first week was taken up with planning the onward journey. “We had to wait until there were enough passengers to fill a minibus to Oymyakon,” Juergen Staack recalls. “When the driver had finally got enough passengers together so that we could set off on the 24-hour trip, I must admit that we felt a bit queasy. What if the bus broke down in these temperatures…?”
The Kolyma Highway, the “Road of Bones”, took them around 700 kilometres in a north-easterly direction. The village of Oymyakon lies in a wind-protected valley that prevents the cold air from escaping, thus causing extremely low temperatures in winter. “During our first days there it was minus 48°C, which was – don’t laugh – apparently too warm for ice whispering. It meant that we had to correct the temperature that had previously been considered necessary for ice whispering, 45°C, downwards. As we couldn’t hear any noise, we started to get a bit nervous. Although there had been reports of ice whispering, no recordings actually existed. Was the whole thing perhaps just a myth?”
Staack filled the time waiting for colder weather, and therefore the opportunity to record the ‘whisper of the stars’, with other audio and video recordings for SAKHA, including conversations with a local meteorologist and inhabitants who talked about their experience of ice whispering. “Some of them were not even aware of the phenomenon, while others reported on how they had experienced it when they were young,” Staack recalls. “The sound seems to have become increasingly seldom. For me, this example makes global warming tangible. A nearby coal-fired power station might also play a part in preventing the temperatures in Oymyakon from falling quite as low as they did some years ago.”
At their destinationBut Staack and Neumann persevered and had their equipment ready night after night. And their patience was finally rewarded. Juergen Staack: “We went out every night to make recordings, but on this particular night the temperatures had dropped even further, to minus 57°C. And suddenly: there it was! Our breath and speech produced a noise, a jangling sound, a kind of rustling crackle that reverberated after each word and each breath and followed it like a shadow. Against the light, we could see our breath billowing and vortexing.” The next night, the magical spectacle was already over – against all expectations, it had got warmer.
After spending around three weeks in Siberia, the two returned to Germany, where Juergen Staack set to work preparing the material and designing the SAKHA exhibition over the course of the year. The installation in BerlinVisitors to SAKHA at the Konrad Fischer Galerie in Berlin first enter a white room. Visually, a peaceful, observational video sets the mood for the tranquillity of the landscape and life in Oymyakon. On the floor, there are four dark-grey loudspeakers made of concrete and arranged in a square, which reproduce a walk in the snow. “I had noticed that snow in Oymyakon sounds different at each temperature. For the installation, I walked around a square shape and recorded the crunching of my steps in the snow. When visitors stand in the square, they can hear a person walking around them through the deep snow.” On one wall, Cyrillic letters have been painted – a text that describes the whisper of the stars. From there, visitors move into a darkened room in which Valery Vinokurov (geologist and meteorologist) speaks in Yakut: recorded against the light, he describes the whisper of the stars, while his breath creates white turbulences and veils as it dissipates into the blackness. Another dark room is then given over entirely to the whisper of the stars itself – which was recorded for the very first time thanks to the artist.
Information on the exhibitionSAKHA runs until 1 March 2013 at the Konrad Fischer Galerie Berlin, Lindenstraße 35, 10969 Berlin, Tel.: +49 (0)30/5059 6820Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 11 am to 6 pm.
Information on the MKH 8060The MKH 8060 is a short gun RF condenser microphone that is ideally suited for high-quality sound recordings in climatically difficult environments. “Juergen Staack’s journey to the world’s coldest inhabited place also sets a new low-temperature record for the MKH 8060,” explains Sennheiser Product Manager Kai Lange. “Thankfully, due to their RF condenser principle, MKH microphones are already equipped with two advantages for use in inclement weather: a high RF voltage at the capsule and very low capsule impedance.”
“The high RF voltage at the capsule has the effect of ‘pressing’ the humidity out of the microphone in critical situations, for example when making outdoor recordings in mist and fog,” Lange continues. “We could say that the capsule ‘notices’ the high humidity in the air and dries itself.”
“The second advantage is the low internal capsule impedance, which is less than 1 kohm, while conventional capsules have a much higher impedance of between 200 kohms and 200 megaohms, depending on the frequency. At these high levels of impedance, the slightest fault in the insulation results directly in the failure of the capsule, whereas RF condenser microphones are absolutely robust.”
About Juergen StaackJuergen Staack lives and works in Düsseldorf. After completing an apprenticeship as a photographer, Staack studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Düsseldorf. He was a member of the masterclass of Prof. Thomas Ruff and graduated in 2008 under Prof. Christopher Williams. Numerous awards and grants, including a grant from the Arts Foundation of North Rhine-Westphalia, enabled Juergen Staack to work and study in Tokyo, São Paulo, Siberia and Seoul. In addition to various solo exhibitions and group shows in Boston, Tokyo, Riga, Düsseldorf, Essen and Berlin, Staack is also the co-founder of the artists’ collective “Fehlstelle”.

Ausgezeichnet: Das Set 900 von Sennheser gewinnt internationale Design-Preise Beyoncé Delivers Rousing and Historic Performance at Super Bowl XLVII with Sennheiser New Orleans, February 14, 2013 – The Super Bowl continues to reign supreme as the most watched television sporting event around the world, shattering broadcast viewership records year over year. Super Bowl XLVII between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers featured an electrifying halftime performance by worldwide superstar Beyoncé at the New Orleans’ Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
With so many millions of fans resolutely focused on the Pepsi Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show on February 3, there was absolutely no margin for error. Therefore it should come as no surprise that Beyoncé’s audio crew and the musical segment’s veteran production provider ATK Audiotek chose Sennheiser’s predictably reliable wireless technology and exemplary sound quality. Continuing in the tradition of last year’s record-breaking halftime show by Madonna, who also performed with Sennheiser, Beyoncé’s 12-minutes-plus performance featured a medley of some of her best known tunes and a reunion of Destiny’s Child.
Beyoncé, a 17-time Grammy Award-winner and longtime Sennheiser user, took the stage at halftime with her signature custom chrome-finish Sennheiser SKM 5200-II handheld transmitter, topped with an MD 5235 dynamic capsule. “She’s got such a huge voice,” said Stephen Curtin of Eighth Day Sound Systems, who is also Beyoncé’s front-of-house engineer. “It’s difficult to put her on a lot of other mics as she can pretty easily distort a capsule if she’s really on it. To have the comfort of knowing that’s not going to be a problem, right off the top, is a huge thing for me.”
Beyoncé and her all-female band and dance troupe performed a medley of hits including “Love On Top”, “Crazy In Love”, “End Of Time” and “Baby Boy” before her Destiny’s Child band mates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams joined her for tracks including “Bootylicious” and “Independent Woman”. Rowland and Williams also stayed on-stage for Beyoncé’s smash hit “Single Ladies”, leaving her to deliver “Halo” solo for the grand finale.
“Nothing beats the quality and the frequency response of the RF compander in the Sennheiser equipment,” observed Jason Kirschnick, Chief Technology Officer, Eighth Day Sound Systems, Beyoncé’s tour production provider. “If you want sound quality, it’s pretty much unmatched when you put it out in the field against other manufacturers.”
Monitor engineer Demetrius Moore sums up the prowess of the microphone’s sonic attributes even more succinctly: “The Sennheiser SKM 5200 is the world’s best sounding live wireless vocal microphone, hands down,” he says.
Prior to kick-off, and using a matte black Sennheiser SKM 5200-II transmitter with an MD 5235 dynamic capsule, Alicia Keys performed the Star Spangled Banner seated at a piano on a stage which was in the shape of the NFL logo. Keys’ voice was shimmering and crystal-clear, and her moving rendition of the national anthem served as the perfect spark to what would become one of the more memorable Super Bowl events in recent history.
Sennheiser’s advanced RF technology is tremendously beneficial during special events such as the Super Bowl, where this year Jason Eskew and the Professional Wireless Systems team coordinated more than 80 audio and comms channels. Stephen Curtin is carrying a total of 12 channels of Sennheiser EM 3732-II wireless receivers on the current leg of Beyoncé’s tour. There are eight channels for SKM 5200-II handhelds, including a main and backup for Beyoncé, three background vocalists and guests, plus four channels for horns. The horn players all use SK 5212-II belt pack transmitters.
“From a technical perspective, RF is a big selling point simply because we can get the 3732 as a wideband product and cover the whole frequency range,” explains Curtin. “That gives us the greatest ease of fitting it in where we can, especially in crowded RF environments. There aren’t a lot of products that can do that; everything else is specific to a certain bandwidth.”
“Sonically, Sennheiser has always been my preference,” he continues. “There’s always a significant difference when you hear someone using another product compared with a Sennheiser.” The off-axis rejection of the Sennheiser vocal mic is another benefit that Curtin appreciates. “Having great directivity and being able to get a significant amount of gain before feedback is a pretty big deal.”

PRESS RELEASE
Sennheiser receives Outstanding Technical Achievement Award for its HD 700 headphones during TEC Foundation Ceremony
Anaheim (USA), 28 January 2013 – Audio specialist Sennheiser announced that its HD 700 headphones were recognized as Outstanding Technical Achievement at the 28th Annual Technical Excellence & Creativity (TEC) Awards. The high-end headphones were awarded as ‘Best in Class’ in the category ‘Headphone/Earpiece Technology’. During the reception at the NAMM show in Anaheim, Greg Beebe, President of Sennheiser USA, was on hand to accept the award on 25 January.
“We are grateful to be recognized by the TEC Foundation for Outstanding Technical Achievement once again in 2013,” commented Greg Beebe. “The HD 700 is a fantastic example of Sennheiser’s relentless pursuit of perfect sound and innovative spirit. We appreciate the efforts of our staff, dealers and of course our customers in helping make the HD 700 a success.”
For more than 65 years, Sennheiser has stood for top-quality products, true sound and tailor-made solutions for every aspect of the recording, transmission and reproduction of sound. With its German engineering, decades of experience in professional business and innovative science, Sennheiser has consistently set the most innovative standards for headphones, headsets, microphones, RF wireless technology and integrated systems.
Designed to meet the highest demandsThe styling and material selection of the HD 700 have been thought through down to the finest detail in order to fully exploit the sound potential of the acoustic unit. The ear cups are designed in such a way that the sound waves are directed to the ears at a slight angle. This results in an impressively natural listening experience. The ear cups themselves have a completely open design. This not only ensures a highly transparent sound but also clearly displays the “heart” of these exciting headphones: the 40 mm transducer. Its powerful neodymium magnet systems guarantee detailed, lifelike audio reproduction from 10 to 42,000 Hz.
With a total harmonic distortion of less than 0.03 percent (at 1 kHz and 105 dB sound pressure level), the HD 700 offers brilliant trebles, precise bass reproduction and a crystal-clear sound. Dips in the bass level are effectively suppressed by the patent-pending multilayer design of the headband. A sleek shape and the black-and-silver finish give the high-end headphones not only a luxuriously elegant but also a high-tech appearance. The ear cushions are made of high-quality microfibre fabric and ensure excellent wearing comfort.

sennheiser-announces-the-rebirth-of-two-true-legends
Sennheiser’s first multi-platform gaming headset:
Legends rebornWorld’s best gaming headsets reengineered for today’s players
Sennheiser announces the rebirth of two true Legends. The sought after PC 350 and PC 360 gaming headsets; both have been reengineered to feature optimized comfort and design. The PC 363D also features virtual 7.1 surround sound. Both will be officially launched at CES, the World’s Largest Consumer Electronics Show in January 2012.
Great news for quality-conscious gamers, who seek nothing but the best. The new Sennheiser PC 350 Special Edition and the PC 363D Surround Sound Gaming Headsets help ensure your partner can live in tranquility, not being able to hear the action from your headset.
Sennheiser developed the headsets to suit the needs of most demanding players:For the ‘Pro’ Player A professional noise blocking gaming headset, the PC 350 Special Edition will keep you gaming in private. Even at full volume, more than 95% of the gaming audio will remain inside the headset so you can immerse yourself in the game while those around you won’t hear a thing; and for that matter you won’t hear them. This is optimal for professional gamers at LAN events or home players who don’t want to be interrupted, or interrupt others while playing. The Special Edition also features the most accurate sound reproduction in a gaming headset today; the collapsible design makes it easy to store and bring along in the supplied carrying case.
For the ultimate entertainment and gadget loving player Delivering full virtual 7.1 Surround Sound with Dolby Headphone® and Pro Logic® IIx, the PC 363D Surround Sound gaming headset creates a more immersive audio experience and allows you to accurately pinpoint the direction of engine roars, shots or explosions. Designed for long hours of gaming, without breaking into a sweat or getting warm ears; it features an open acoustic design that lets air flow through to keep you extra comfortable at all times.
Engineered for quality and comfortBoth headsets utilize Sennheiser’s “Eargonomic Acoustic Refinement” technology, which channels audio signals directly into your ears, rather than onto them – a result of Sennheiser’s German-engineered technology and speakers that are made individually at Sennheiser’s own facility in Ireland. They come fully equipped with pro noise cancelling microphones; to top it off, Sennheiser has built all headset controls into the specially designed metal ear cups and microphone boom, making volume control and mute functions easy and intuitive.
“We realized that the previous models, from 2008 and 2010 are still the most sought after headsets by gamers. We have learned a lot since developing them, so we went back to see how we could make them even better, using what we know today,” says Product Manager Dr. Christian Ern of Sennheiser Communications.
The PC 350 Second Edition and PC 363D Surround Sound Gaming Headsets will be available late February. Pricing for both models will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Just like the rest of Sennheiser’s products, both headsets are built to last and therefore come with Sennheiser’s two-year worldwide warranty.

Press Release_FS award_Final_14Nov2012.doc Frost & Sullivan recognizes Sennheiser’s Innovation Excellence with Prestigious Award
November 2012, Copenhagen, Denmark – Frost & Sullivan is impressed by Sennheiser Communications’ state-of-the-art headsets, its quality design, excellent wearing comfort, and ActiveGard™ hearing protection technology.
Based on its recent analysis of the enterprise communications market, Frost & Sullivan awards its 2012 Award for Most Innovative European Communications Product of the year to Sennheiser Communications for its DW Wireless Series headsets. Designed for seamless use with both desk phones and softphones and with a strong emphasis on multi-vendor interoperability, the DW Wireless Series headsets were adjudged to be the leading product in the enterprise headset market. According to Frost & Sullivan, the market is expected to grow by 11.2 percent from year 2010 to year 2017 globally in terms of revenue.
“Sennheiser Communications is a dynamic player in a highly competitive market, with a strong design ethic, and it’s clear that innovation is part of Sennheiser’s DNA,” said Frost & Sullivan Information and Communications Technology Research Director for Europe, Adrian Drozd. “In selecting the company for this Award, the independent judging panel that scrutinized Frost & Sullivan’s analysis was impressed by the innovative design and features, solid go-to-market strategy and, above all, strong market potential of the DW Wireless Series headsets.”
The innovative technologies incorporated across the Sennheiser headset range set it apart: HD voice clarity provides users with a natural listening experience; noise-canceling microphones provide optimum speech quality by filtering out unwanted background noises, reducing echo and increasing clarity; and the excellent ActiveGard™ acoustical shock protection system safeguards users from sudden sound surges. Combined with excellent in-use comfort and long-distance wireless freedom that enhances office mobility, Frost & Sullivan considers the DW Wireless Series headsets to be an elegant solution to the needs of contact centers, offices and Unified Communications professionals.
In receiving the award, Johannes Kaulfuss, Head of Product Management at Sennheiser Communication, said, “Our new headsets are the culmination of almost seventy years’ experience of the audio electronics industry and we are delighted that Frost & Sullivan – widely acknowledged to be leaders in offering insight into the enterprise communications marketplace – has recognized the innovation excellence of our DW Wireless Series range.
The multivendor interoperability of the DW Wireless Headsets Series (optimized for Microsoft Lync, Aastra, Alcatel-Lucent, Avaya, Cisco, IBM, and Polycom) creates strong potential across a spectrum of verticals and organization sizes. The headsets are expected to see high uptake as a premium/high-end product for contact centers (wireless usage), offices, and UC professionals.
“Enterprises are increasingly demanding interoperability between different communications technologies, solutions and devices,” notes Drozd. “Sennheiser’s strong partnerships with the key UC vendors were an important consideration in recognizing their DW Wireless Series Headsets as Most Innovative European Communications Product of the Year for 2012.”
Each year, Frost & Sullivan's European ICT research team recognizes the best performing companies with around 20 'best of the year' awards: expert analysts covering the Enterprise Communications / UC market on an ongoing basis identify 10-12 candidates that – based on analyst insight and comparison of key criteria – are whittled down to a short-list of 3-5. During a workshop session, the analysts present their research to an independent panel of judges consisting of CIOs / Senior IT Vice Presidents representing a variety of vertical markets: these are often key ICT purchasing decision makers bringing strong insights. For this specific award, four judges voted unanimously in favor of Sennheiser Communications.
About the Award Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has developed most pioneering and groundbreaking communications product of the past 12 months. The award recognizes the innovation, market strategy and market potential of the recipient.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Sennheiser Sound Safari with MKH microphones

Sennheiser Press Release Sound Safari in Namibia: MKH microphones record ethnic choirs and desert sounds
November 2012 – Sabine Kämper had two major projects in mind when she set off to her dream country Namibia in summer. With a stereo pair of MKH 8040 cardioid microphones and a matching windshield prototype from Rycote in her backpack, the journalist and author from Hamburg travelled through Namibia to record ethnic choirs and the sounds of nature. The first result of her 9,000 kilometre trip from the Kalahari to Kaokoveld is now complete: “Chorus and Cuisine“, an unusual mixture of travel guide, recipe book and music CD, has just been published.
For “Chorus and Cuisine – Namibia”, Sabine Kämper embarked on a culinary journey through the African country and its lodges, recording the staff choirs as she went. “That perhaps sounds a little unusual at first,” the author said, “but not when I tell the story that led up to it. In 2008, I was at ‘The Fort’ lodge in the Onguma Game Reserve in the Etosha National Park. After an excellent dinner, many of the female guests begged the chef to reveal the recipe for his soup. He did so, and everyone was happy. I can understand them, as I’m also a passionate collector of recipes when I’m travelling. I also like to buy CDs of the typical music of the country as a holiday souvenir. In Southern Africa, it is customary on many of the lodges and guest farms for the kitchen staff or even the entire team to perform a few traditional songs after the meal – and that was the case in Onguma… That was the birth of ‘Chorus and Cuisine’.“
“Safari feeling between the covers of a book”In 2012, Sabine Kämper and her partner Detlef Overmann finally set off for Namibia to visit a total of 18 selected lodges and to record the staff choirs, collect recipes and photograph the dishes. “It was clear to me, of course, that I would have to do a lot of improvising when it came to the audio recordings – we could expect to be recording in all different kinds of rooms, from libraries to laundries. For that reason, we needed microphones that guaranteed good recordings whatever the situation, and so I turned to Sennheiser’s experts for help,” said Kämper. They recommended that she used MKH 8040s – not least because of the high temperatures at the location, as Kämper was also planning to make outdoor recordings for another project.
“In the end, we never actually needed to record in a laundry,” Kämper recalled. “Most of the time, we somehow managed to squeeze the choir into our lodge room or we were able to record in the kitchen. Once, the lodge manager even let us use his living room. We used an ORTF arrangement for the recordings and fed the sound from the pair of microphones directly into a computer via a small Mbox2 interface. This lightweight and compact audio system provided us with excellent recordings. After the rough cut, I asked the audio engineer what he had done to the recordings to make them sound so perfectly ‘rounded’, and he said: “Not much. I only put the songs in the order you wanted…”
Soundscapes in the Kalahari Sabine Kämper and Detlef Overmann also used their journey through Namibia to make recordings for a second project. For “Soundscapes”, they recorded typical sounds of the country, which Namibian artists could then use as a basis and background for music compositions. “For the atmospheric sounds, for example, I thought of the barking gecko in the desert, the dawn chorus of birds and the sound of antelopes at a waterhole. I wanted to record village sounds or simply the rushing of the Atlantic waves,” Sabine Kämper said. A major challenge in all of these recordings was wind noise, as it can often get quite stormy in the desert in the evening. The author also worried about the microphones being constantly exposed to fine sand dust.
“The Rycote windshield prototype was just what I needed, and the equipment turned out to be extremely sturdy. I was able to record really wonderful natural background sounds, and the production with the artists is scheduled to begin in 2013,” said Kämper. “The microphones were simply fantastic. On the very first recordings in the bush in the Kalahari, I always noticed a kind of buzzing and whizzing sound that I couldn’t explain. The interface was OK, the headphones were fine, the microphones were working perfectly as always, and there was nothing wrong with my ears… In the end, I found out that I had recorded the wing beats of some weaver birds on a tree some distance away. Well, I’d already been fascinated by the MKHs, but now I was absolutely in love with them!”
About Sabine KämperSabine Kämper is a freelance journalist and author. She is a great fan of radio and audiobooks. Her publishing company kuduhear takes up the African tradition of narrative and oral culture in a modern way. It presents documentation and stories from and about Africa. Each audiobook is a small journey on the African continent. They feature a mix of original sounds, interviews and music; the recipe books come with a CD with accompanying music. These will soon be complemented by readings of safari stories and novels. “Chorus and Cuisine – Namibia” (ISBN 978-3-942143-03-5) has German and English texts and is now available at amazon.de. www.kuduhear.com.

The benefits of this microphone principle are high climatic resistance, low inherent self-noise and the wide frequency range of the microphones, making them ideally qualified for even the most unusual applications.

Ausgezeichnet: Das Set 900 von Sennheser gewinnt internationale Design-PreiseDay & Night: Sennheiser Gets Behind the Music with the World’s Greatest DJs
November 2012 - A new series of interviews with the world’s top DJs explores the passion, personalities and drive for perfection behind the music. Exclusive to Sennheiser’s YouTube channel, the Day & Night interviews give a glimpse into the lives of top DJs, and the daytime people behind the legends. Starting today each week a new video will be released up to the end of this year.Party time, play time, quiet time, family time – day and night, our lives and experiences can be very different. That’s also true for the world’s greatest DJs. In a series of exclusive interviews, artists including DJ QBert, DJ Fly, DJ Mandrayq, DJ Sonar and DJ Nucleo share rare insights into their lives, loves and sources of inspiration. “The Day & Night interviews explore the source of their creativity, asks if inspiration strikes by day or night, and looks at who the world’s greatest DJs see as their own mentors and sources of inspiration. We wanted to show the personalities and also the work, commitment and passion that has made them the best in the world,” said Katrin Huss at Sennheiser Consumer Electronics. [Watch PREVIEW VIDEO HERE]
The Day & Night interviews were inspired by Sennheiser’s new Amperior headphones. Based on the legendary HD 25 – one of the most popular monitoring headphones used by DJs in clubs around the globe – the Amperior is the HD 25’s daytime alter ego, bringing the club sound to the streets.
In conversation with Sennheiser, DJ QBert, one of the world’s most influential DJs and one of the latest top DJs to endorse Sennheiser headphones, reveals a daytime persona that’s very different from his frenetic turntable wizardry. He tells how his superhuman speed on the decks is down to meditation, the calm of nature and getting plenty of sleep – a trick he learned from a hard rock guitarist! That lifestyle is reflected in different tastes in music – classical and sitar music – both are unexpected source of inspiration for creating new ways to scratching vinyl in the clubs. For QBert, music is about “the poetry in life” and much of his inspiration comes from spirituality. [WATCH FIRST EPISODE HERE]
Portugal’s DJ Nucleo, also shows a different side to the superstar DJ. Working as a social worker during the day he’s a different man between day and night: “During the daytime I’m working and I have to be that really serious guy, because I work to take care of children… At night I am a little bit crazy – a funny guy, and always joking. I am really a totally different man!”
The interviews with the world’s elite DJs were conducted during the 2012 DMC World DJ Championship. Sennheiser, as Supporting Sponsor, presented each of the 50 finalists with an exclusive limited edition Day & Night gift box. Fittingly, the gift boxes each contained two pairs of Sennheiser’s flagship headphones: the new Amperior for the day and the professional HD 25 for the night. “Like the DMC champions, our headphones reflect an intense commitment to delivering the best experience of the music, but what that means in different situations can be, well, night and day,” continued Katrin Huss. “For example, Sennheiser’s Amperior shares technology with the HD 25, but with a day-time persona: There’s the deep powerful bass and fidelity of the DJ headphones within a stylish design that’s perfect for wearing out and optimized for mobile devices. It’s a way of taking that club feeling with you during the day.”
