The solution, Reckon BankData, virtually eliminates manual data entry, saving time and costs for businesses and accounting professionals. These new bank partnerships form part of the banking solution which helps automate the import of bank transactions into accounts within their accounting software.“With Reckon BankData, unlike some existing products, both the accounting professional and their small business client are using the same tool. Being a cloud accounting application they are able to access the same data simultaneously and make collaborative business decisions,” says Gerald Chait, Group Marketing Manager, Marketing.“By significantly reducing time spent on data entry, our banking solution frees up accounting professionals so they can offer businesses more valuable advisory services, and have access to the tools that help make working together on strategies for growth far simpler.”Through Reckon BankData, users can import transactional data from thousands of banks throughout the world. Reckon has relationships with the Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, NAB, ANZ, St George, Bank of Melbourne and BankSA in Australia as well as ANZ, Westpac, ASB Bank, Kiwibank and National Bank in New Zealand for direct electronic data imports. The service is currently exclusive to Reckon’s web-based program CashBook Online however there are plans to offer the banking solution with Quicken Personal Plus and Quicken Home & Business programs, as well as QuickBooks desktop products and QuickBooks Hosted in 2013. “Being a cloud solution, accounting professionals and business owners can also benefit from not having to install software and receiving automatic updates, as well as having ready access when and where they need it,” said Chait.Reckon has also added a new Bank Compatibility Checker to their website for accounting professionals and businesses seeking information about their bank availability. The Bank Compatibility Checker is available here: http://online.reckon.com.au/Products/CashBookOnline/FeaturesandBenefits.aspx Thousands of Australian businesses now SBR-ready this tax time 2012-07-26T05:19:06Z thousands-of-australian-businesses-now-sbr-ready-this-tax-time Thousands of Australian businesses now have access to Standard Business Reporting (SBR)* enabled technology developed by Reckon Limited to lodge payment summaries with the Australian Tax Office (ATO) this tax time. Payment summary lodgement through Reckon’s SBR-enabled portal, Reckon GovConnect, has initially been rolled out to thousands of QuickBooks Hosted users across Australia. Reckon says customers are quickly embracing the new way to lodge, demonstrating the ever increasing value of their integrated online tools. Saving time with pre-filled forms, quick validation from the ATO, being able to submit on behalf of clients and the ability to pre-lodge are some key benefits of Reckon GovConnect which is offered to QuickBooks Hosted users at no added cost. “SBR forms an integral part of our drive to provide businesses, accountants and bookkeepers, with seamless ways to connect with one another, as well as other key stakeholders within the business eco-system, such as government agencies. By harnessing SBR, Reckon GovConnect connects users directly to the ATO to submit payment summaries within the QuickBooks Hosted environment, with real time validation and feedback messages being sent by both parties," said Gavin Dixon, Reckon Business Division CEO. Reckon has plans to make payment summary lodgement through Reckon GovConnect available to QuickBooks desktop users next year. The accounting software provider is also forging ahead with more SBR-enabled forms flagging that the Australian financial services licensee profit and loss statement and balance sheet is already a fair way into the development process. Notably, Reckon was the first accounting software provider to release SBR-enabled software in a commercially available accounting software program last year, with QuickBooks 2012/13 offering BAS lodgement through Reckon GovConnect. The company says they’ve seen a steady increase in BAS lodgements through the Reckon GovConnect portal over the last 18 months and expects the numbers will rise in the year ahead. Further, the ATO has announced their plans to transition from Electronic Lodgement Services (ELS) to SBR from 2015. “Our customers, both new and existing, are choosing online solutions, and as part of this they are recognising the flexibility and security our online environment provides. Recent tablet sales results and smart phone trends are key indicators that our online tools, including Reckon GovConnect, are becoming increasingly relevant to businesses and accounting professionals,” said Dixon. QuickBooks Hosted users will need an AUSKey to submit payment summaries and business activity statements to the ATO via Reckon GovConnect. Users will note the Reckon GovConnect option is now available within QuickBooks when preparing submissions. Reckon has videos demonstrating the process on the website: www.reckon.com.au/govconnect New SMS service for retailers launched by Reckon 2012-05-31T04:01:01Z new-sms-service-for-retailers-launched-by-reckon Australian software specialist Reckon has today launched a new SMS service for retailers that the company says will help businesses improve client retention and reduce time spent following up client appointments. The new Reckon SMS service is one of the standout new features now offered with the recently released Reckon Retail Point of Sale 2012/13 software, a solution that seamlessly integrates with QuickBooks to provide efficient point-of-sale management. Reckon says the new messaging service helps automate business processes and reduce costs involved with managing clients.“Small businesses managing appointments want to reduce the chance of clients not showing up and are often too stretched for time to be following up appointments; this new SMS service is being offered to make this easier,” says Gerald Chait, Reckon’s Group General Manager, Marketing.“Text messaging is a simple technology, and one that we are all familiar with. By providing this technology to retailers, they can now have an advantage over their competitors.”The new messaging service ties in with the Reckon Retail Point of Sale software Appointment Manager tool which was introduced last year. Once signed up to use the Reckon SMS service, retailers can choose to have the messages sent automatically or sent manually when creating a new client appointment.Reckon says while their retail software has traditionally attracted stores with many product lines, such as clothing and giftware stores, the Appointment Manager tool and the introduction of the Reckon SMS service, are providing compelling benefits to service businesses as well.Tim Coop from TCI Professional Services in Victoria has a number of clients using Reckon Retail Point of Sale software and says the new messaging service will be worthwhile for many types of businesses that take reservations. “I’m very excited about the new Reckon Retail POS features this year. The ability to SMS customers for appointments is fantastic news for restaurateurs, as well as medical and other health practices whose businesses rely on bookings or appointments. My other favourite addition this year is the new waitlist feature,” says Coop.A new customer waitlist tool has also been added to the latest release of Reckon Retail Point of Sale 2012/13 software. Integrated with the Appointment Manager, the new waitlist feature gives businesses the ability to put customers on a list when no appointments are available; Reckon says this will help fill cancellations, improve customer service and reduce the chance of people queuing outside the premises, particularly for a busy doctor’s surgery or a restaurant.“For a busy restaurant the waitlist feature makes it simple to take the customer details and give them the opportunity to comfortably wait in a designated area, such as a bar. Plus, now with the Reckon SMS service, retailers can now send an SMS to clients on a waitlist once a spot is available,” says Chait. New features included the Reckon Retail Point of Sale 2012/13 software release are:* SMS capability in the Appointment Manager by signing up to the Reckon SMS service* The customer waitlist tool now also offered in the Appointment Manager* An enhanced customisable touch-screen layout that improves how touch screen buttons are aligned* And enhancements to the Graphical Table Manager that makes it possible to customise images and have a visual representation where notes and held transactions exist. The Reckon Retail Point of Sale 2012/13 software range includes Reckon Retail Point of Sale Lite, Reckon Retail Point of Sale Professional and Reckon Retail Point of Sale Enterprise, as well as the Reckon Retail Point of Sale Starter Kit. The Appointment Manager and Table Manager features are available in the Reckon Retail Point of Sale Professional and Enterprise versions. Reckon Retail Point of Sale Professional 2012/13 software costs $435 per year. Connect2Field is a cloud-based job management and scheduling application designed for small to medium sized businesses with field staff, such as electrical repairs businesses, plumbers and other trades services. By using the application both the field worker and the office staff can easily manage jobs and improve customer service. Job management, job notification, invoicing and quoting are key features of the software. It is intended that Connect2Field will remain an independent vendor and continue to be agnostic in relation to any accounting system to which it might connect. “This provides yet another useful add-on for our customer base,” said Clive Rabie, Group CEO, Reckon Limited. “Many of our small to medium sized customers that have field workers may find this a useful complement to their current set-up.” “Field service businesses are ideal candidates for Cloud-based software, and Reckon is an ideal partner for our future ambitions.” said Steve Orenstein, Founder and CEO of Connect2Field.” Significant business growth over the last year encouraged the Connect2Field board to seek a large equity investor to help accelerate their growth and enable them to enter the international market. “I talk to SaaS start ups literally every day. What excites me about Connect2Field is that it brings all the benefits of Cloud Computing to Ma and Pa businesses,” said Ben Kepes, Global Cloud Computing Analyst. “Steve has built an impressive business already and this additional funding, alongside the credibility of a well known and publicly traded company like Reckon, will help accelerate that growth.” A demonstration of the Connect2Field application is available via this link: http://www.connect2field.com/video/ The latest QuickBooks software puts the spotlight on customers 2012-04-04T23:07:04Z the-latest-quickbooks-software-puts-the-spotlight-on-customers The standout new feature in the latest QuickBooks software launched in Australia by Reckon this week is a new tool for analysing customers. The new QuickBooks Customer Snapshot is one of several additions to QuickBooks 2012/13 which is now available in major retail stores across Australia; the Customer Snapshot will also be included in the updated QuickBooks Hosted software to be made available by 17 April, 2012. Reckon says the new tool is designed to help users quickly see insightful information about their customers and identify trouble spots before they become more problematic. The Customer Snapshot offers a graphical view of individual customer’s activity such as their purchasing history, average payment period and outstanding money owed. “Bad customers can not only cause great frustration, they can also impact your bottom line. The new Customer Snapshot in QuickBooks will help you identify those customers who never pay on time, as well as those that are always great to deal with,” says Gerald Chait, Reckon’s Group General Manager, Marketing. “The new Customer Snapshot looks like a simple addition to the program, but it is actually a powerful analysis tool that draws data from within QuickBooks to provide you with a graphical view of your customer’s activity. It can be particularly helpful for speeding up the payment cycle, or improving direct marketing.” The Customer Snapshot tool has been integrated with the customisable Company Snapshot released with QuickBooks last year which offers an overview of business performance. Both snapshots give users the ability to easily ‘click’ on the graphs and charts to drill into specific data. Updates to QuickBooks for the 2012/13 release include: new Customer Snapshot new available credits alert new toggle tax function within the general journal enhancements to the Reckon GovConnect BAS/IAS lodgement application as well as over 20 smaller improvements to the program. Reckon Accredited Partner Deb Williams operates Business Bookkeeping in Victoria said the new available credits alert will be the most useful new feature in QuickBooks 2012/13 for her small business clients. “The new credit alert pop-up in the latest QuickBooks will help a lot of my small business clients. It can be hard to remember which suppliers have credits, but the pop-up will remind them and ensure they are applied,” said Williams who was part of Reckon’s Beta testing group. QuickBooks Hosted, to be updated by 17 April, will include the same new features found in the QuickBooks desktop products as well as the new Reckon Financial Statement Designer. The new designer provides statutory reporting across all types of entities in the online accounting program. Users will be able to meet statutory reporting obligations such as AIFRS and XYZ reports, and customise a range of financial statements such as income, cash flow and balance sheets, all in the QuickBooks Hosted multi-user, online environment. Reckon says this will dramatically improve the efficiency of meeting obligations. The QuickBooks 2012/13 range includes QuickBooks EasyStart Lite, QuickBooks EasyStart, QuickBooks Accounting, QuickBooks Plus, QuickBooks Pro, QuickBooks Contractor, QuickBooks Premier and QuickBooks Enterprise. Prices start at $59. Survey shows tough year for small business but optimism remains 2011-12-15T03:37:18Z survey-shows-tough-year-for-small-business-but-optimism-remains 66% of Australian businesses have reported increased (41%) or stable (25%) revenue this year, and more than 80% of businesses expect to have positive or stable revenue figures in 2012, according to the 2011 Reckon Annual Australian Small Business Survey released today. Over 1200 small business owners and managers took part in the 2011 Reckon Annual Australian Small Business Survey conducted by software specialist Reckon Limited last month to gauge how businesses have performed throughout the year, their expectations for the year ahead, as well as to uncover technology and lifestyle trends. Reckon’s Business Division CEO, Gavin Dixon, says the survey shows that despite global uncertainty this year, many small businesses in Australia have remained profitable and are optimistic about the year ahead. “2011 has been challenging for many small operators in Australia. Reckon’s survey shows the vast majority (81%) of businesses have seen an increase in costs and nearly half have faced increased competition for their products or services,” says Dixon. “Despite these challenges, as well as concerns about economic conditions and rises in living costs, it is heartening to see that businesses are feeling relatively upbeat about the year ahead with four out of five businesses expecting to increase their revenue or for it to remain stable in 2012.”Revenue performance figures varied only slightly from state-to-state. Close to half of all NSW (46%) and Victorian (44%) businesses indicated an increase in revenue in 2011. The 2011 Reckon Annual Australian Small Business Survey showed economic conditions ranked as the top concern for 1 in 3 businesses, with increased costs of living (21%) and the introduction of a carbon pricing scheme in 2012 (20%) ranking as the second and third highest concerns. “Respondents have ranked uncertain economic conditions high again this year. This is not surprising. Business owners and managers want to be able to control their business future, global uncertainty can leave many feeling vulnerable, “ says Dixon.A report covering the 2011 Reckon Annual Australian Small Business Survey results is available online here: http://home.quicken.com.au/Documents/PDF/2011_ReckonSmallBusinessSurveyFindings.pdf Reckon continues to soar into the cloud 2011-12-13T03:54:49Z reckon-continues-to-soar-into-the-cloud A leading Australian software provider, Reckon Limited, has announced a raft of improvements to their CashBook Online software today, keeping with their promise to provide a compelling online environment for a comprehensive range of cloud based business solutions. The software specialist says updating payroll software is a necessity this year with significant changes occurring after June 30, 2011. In particular, tax tables have changed for the 2011/12 financial year and employers are required to administer paid parental leave payments. “The easiest way to stay compliant and ensure your business is meeting employer obligations is to update your payroll software. This year’s changes are significant with employers needing to be prepared for paid parental leave and the new flood levy applying to taxable income,” said Gerald Chait, Reckon Group General Manager – Marketing. The Flood and Cyclone Reconstruction Levy will apply to employees earning over $50,000 during the 2011/12 financial year. The levy is charged at half a cent for every dollar over $50,000; and $250 plus one cent for every dollar over $100,000. “Any business with staff likely to take paid parental leave in the coming year will need to be prepared to administer the government payment. This is easily achieved with Payroll Premier which helps ensure payments are made and details are automatically included on pay slips and payment summaries.” “The range of functionality offered in Payroll Premier is one of the key reasons we continue to see customers updating this product year after year. There’s enormous flexibility for calculating the many variances between different staff such as rates of pay, awards, hours worked and superannuation funds.” Reckon Payroll Premier is designed for small to medium sized businesses that need to manage employee records, record superannuation, manage various pay rates and track employee leave. Reckon Payroll Premier costs $689 for a full version and $339 for an annual licence.
