Giga Information Group TEI Study Shows Economic
Benefits of Standardizing on WRQ Reflection

XXX (Intl town), October XX, 2002 WRQ, Inc. has released independent research supporting the benefits of standardizing on WRQ Reflection, which delivers support for Web infrastructure, enhanced security, and capabilities for lowering enterprise IT costs in managing host access. WRQ has also announced the worldwide availability of Reflection 10.0.

A growing concern in IT today is reducing the cost of owning and operating enterprise desktops that connect over the network to key data and applications residing on host systems. One of the challenges for vendors has been to determine what can be improved technologically to deliver greater savings to management while continuing to provide increased capabilities and flexibility to IT. Another challenge has been to prove the overall economic benefits of standardizing the desktop on a single host access solution, evidence of which has not been available until today.

We have had anecdotal evidence for many years that WRQ adds value to IT administrators in enterprise host system environments when it comes to reducing management and support costs, said Randy Robinson, vice president, Reflection Business Unit at WRQ. But proving the merits of consolidating on Reflection has been difficult, until now.

WRQs latest enhancements to its host access product line, combined with data results from Giga Information Groups Total Economic Impact Study with WRQ, demonstrate that there are real ways to address these challenges.

Gigas study, The Total Economic Impact (TEI) of Standardizing on WRQs Reflection for Windows, incorporates independent Giga research and data gathered from current U.S.-based WRQ customers in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, financial services and online software services. The report is available via download at www.wrq.com/info/gigatei.

Key statements and findings in the report include:
In our research, Giga discovered that implementing WRQ Reflection emulation solutions was a relatively low-risk endeavor due in part to WRQs longevity in the industry and their financial strength.
Overall, standardizing the desktop on a single host access solution can save the typical 7,000-seat enterprise up to $1,028,704 over three years in acquisition and IT support costs. While initial deployment costs are fairly high, customers should see a positive return on investment (ROI) well within two years.
Reflection has the potential to provide good ROI: up to 24 percent, unadjusted, and 18 percent, risk adjusted, and a payback period within 20-22 months.

Reflection users may see significant benefits and savings in three major categories:
Reduced IT support and help desk costs, with the potential for large organizations to save 2.1 full time equivalents (FTE) in headcount or $178,500 annually, and up to 75 percent reduction in emulation-related help desk calls when shifting from multiple emulation packages to Reflection.

Efficiencies and savings in dealing with one emulation vendor, with potential savings of $11,500 annually in contract review/negotiation and administrative costs.

Improved IT support productivity by taking advantage of Reflection central management and automation tools, with the potential for large organizations to save the efforts of 1.1 IT FTE or a savings of $93,500 annually, as well as reduced report generation time, e.g., from hours to minutes.

Todd OBert, president of Productive Online, stated: Over the past year and a half, weve seen the enterprise focus on creating operational efficiencies to reduce costs and clearly some have followed through by consolidating multiple emulation packages into a single solution. As a committed market leader, WRQ Reflection has been an obvious choice for customers looking to standardize.

The implementation of WRQs Reflection for the Web product in our enterprise has enabled us to retire nine different terminal emulation packages and consolidate into one Web-based emulation for all our host systems, said Valerie Parker, principal IT specialist at Air Products. This has greatly reduced our complexity and overall support cost for the company. Having a Web-based emulation package keeps our client PCs thinner by not having the software loaded on all PCs. This makes software upgrades go much more smoothly since only the server side has to be upgraded.

WRQ knows the host environment and where it is going, enabling companies to make the most out of their big iron investments and helping them adapt to new technologies such as the Web, new operating systems and programming techniques, said Jim Bobbitt, COO, Broughton International.
