Seminal Melbourne dance label Razor Recordings is set to release an impressive new Elektrik Disko - aka Jolyon Petch - remix of the 1993 Filthy Lucre release ‘Sweet Dynamite’ featuring legendary Jamaican 70s disco queen, Claudja Barry

The fresh rework of the explosive 90s floorfiller, comes in two versions - the ‘Elektrik Disko Extended Mixand the ‘Elektrik Disko Club Mix’

The Elektrik Disko reworks are characterised by the in-demand producer’s deft ability at interlocking vocals with phat and funky, bass driven disco-house grooves, with both Sweet Dynamite reworks showcasing Barry’s powerful, take no prisoners vocal performance, as she demands you surrender to the dancefloor!

“Listen to the music, so sweet and tender, listen to the music and you’ll surrender”

Filthy Lucre first met Claudja Barry in Melbourne, during the summer of 1993, when founding member Gavin Campbell heard the Salsoul disco star was in town, visiting with family. Campbell invited Barry to perform at his infamous queer dance club Tasty. Meanwhile, as a consequence of hearing the Filthy Lucre remix of Yothu Yindi’s Treaty “everywhere”, Barry and producer husband Jurgen Korduletsch, offered the producers the chance to rework any song from the disco diva’s 1970s back catalogue.

The production team, consisting of Campbell, Robert Goodge (I’m Talking) and DJ Paul Main would choose wisely, with the former Boney M vocalist’s sultry 1976 disco-funk classic, Sweet Dynamite, their weapon of choice and Campbell’s Razor Records (now Razor Recordings) as the release label.

The original 1993 Razor release of Sweet Dynamite included the Filthy Lucre ‘Tasty Club Mix’, tweaked along the way by Campbell and Main, as they road-tested the acid-disco workout on the Tasty dancefloor. The remastered ’93 Tasty Club Mix will be included on an expanded reissue of the Razor back catalogue (1988-1995), expected early 2022

Claudja Barry achieved acclaim in the 1970s, as a member of Boney M – contributing vocals to the disco supergroup’s Daddy Cool, Sunny and Rasputin hit singles - before embarking on a successful solo career, with hits Boogie Woogie Dancing Shoes, Down & Counting and Dancing Fever.

Elektrik Disko has enjoyed a string of recent Australian dance hits and remixes, including the Elektrik Disko edit of the Robyn S classic ‘Show Me Love’ (2020), remixes for the likes of Junior Jack, Siedah Garret and Kid Créme and the successful Elektrik Disko singles ‘My Destiny’ (2020) and ‘Tell Me Why (#1 ARIA Club chart for three weeks in January 2021).

The Filthy Lucre remix of Yothu Yindi’s ‘Treaty’ was the 1992 ARIA Awards ‘Song of the Year’, and ‘Best Single’ and ‘Best Engineer’ (for Simon Polinski) the same year, with the Filthy Lucre DJs going on to become Australia’s first to be awarded ARIA certified gold records. Recent productions include a remix of I’m Talking’s ‘Holy Word’ (2020) and the 2019 single ‘Mabo’ for Yothu Yindi & The Treaty Project.

The Elektrik Disko remixes of Sweet Dynamite by Filthy Lucre featuring Claudja Barry are now available on all digital platforms, through Xelon Entertainment and on promo via Global PR Pool.
