Chance for a flight in 2-seat Spitfire

Announcement posted by Spitfire Association 10 Feb 2022

Spitfire Association event goes ahead at Temora with the Roulettes, RAAF band and roar of warbird engines

The Spitfire Association is excited to confirm the 60th Anniversary Dinner will go ahead on 05 March at Temora Aviation Museum. All Australians are welcome to attend. This event is not limited to Spitfire Association members.

One lucky dinner attendee will get the chance to win a flight in a two-seat Spitfire, the first to be restored in Australia.

Can you imagine what it’s like to feel the roar of the Spitfire’s Merlin engine, the thrust of a Spitfire TR9, yes Australia’s own two-seat Spitfire, at take-off and the joy of streaming through the clouds in a Spitfire?

Don’t worry if you’re not the winner of the free flight draw because a second Spitfire flight being auctioned on the night.

Geoff Zuber, President of the Spitfire Association acknowledged the support of the Hunter Fighter Collection (THFC) and Pays Air Service in providing the opportunity to experience the wonder of the Spitfire with these flights, “As the son of a Spitfire pilot, I am excited that we are giving one of our ticket holders this once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience flying in a Spitfire, which has to be one of the world’s most iconic planes.”

The THFC are readying this aircraft for commercial flights in Australia and the aircraft will be based in Scone. The Spitfire TR9 is expected to be ready in the second half of 2022. Your flight will be immersed in special briefings and a commemorative Spitfire Association and THFC certificate will bring back your personal memories of this wonderful occasion of a lifetime.

“I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank Defence Bank, AVT Australia, Temora Aviation Museum, Meyer Vandenberg Lawyers, military artist, David Bryant, Bausele, and the Boson Group for their unstinting support of the Spitfire Association.

“Your support helps our Association to achieve its mission of keeping Australia resilient through the Spitfire Memorial Defence Fellowship and our other fund-raising efforts” Mr. Zuber said.

Mr. Zuber announced the winner of the limited edition Bausele watch, made from the first F/A-18A Hornet fighter jet built and flown in Australia.

“Congratulations Michael Finger for owning your bit of military history with the limited-edition Royal Australian Air Force Centenary 2021 - AVIATOR MARK II watch from Bausele and thank you for your support of the Spitfire Association. We look forward to seeing you in Temora on the 5th of March,” he said.

The dinner will take place in the hangar with the Spitfires, will feature stories and anecdotes from one of Australia’s remaining Spitfire pilots and an announcement of this year’s Spitfire Memorial Defence Fellow.
