Is there a chat club for older women embracing their sexuality? YES - there is!

Announcement posted by The Spicy Boudoir 10 Jun 2022

While the new Australian film How to Please a Woman is helping to put the spotlight on older age sexuality, not every woman has a network of such open-minded friends to talk about sex.

Are you a woman over 40 and too ashamed or embarrassed to talk about sex and menopause? If you said yes...even if you said, no...there is a new group in town just for you!

Where can older women go to talk about their sexuality as they move through their golden years? It's not always easy talking to a friend about how you feel about sex and your sexuality. There are few, if any, dedicated forums where women can meet and speak openly and honestly about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences.

Brisbane woman, Susan Jarvis, also known as The Maven, is the founder of an online sexual wellness store for older women, The Spicy Boudoir. Susan speaks to women daily and realised that there was a need for a safe space for conversations around sex, sexuality, menopause, relationships, and everything else that revolves around mid-life.

As one of Susan's coaching clients said recently, 'I am too embarrassed to talk to my girlfriend about the problems in my sex life with my husband'.

Susan had an idea from that comment and then, encouraged by a recent episode of ABC's Life Matters talkback program 'Feeling Sexy as a Woman over 50' with host Beverley Wang, Susan decided to create a MeetUp group specifically for older women embracing their sexuality.

Susan will draw on her life experiences to support and guide women on their journey:

"I have had quite a journey exploring my sexuality over the last 20 years. Though when I reached perimenopause a number of years ago, I found myself feeling like I would never have sex again! It was a bit of a setback to my confidence and identity when I felt so disconnected from my womanhood and thoughts about sexual intimacy. Particularly, when I had made a promise to myself that I would live a life filled with joy and passion until I died. After some angst, I decided not to give up on being a sexual person because I knew my sexual energy was vital to my overall health and well-being.

Many older women fall into the false belief that they are not sexual beings when in fact every person has the capacity for pleasure. I want all women to understand that even when you think your body and mind are no longer interested, there are tools, lessons, and techniques that will ignite your pleasure pathways.

I want this group to become a catalyst for women to re-ignite their passion for pleasure and to celebrate those women who are on an adventure with their sexuality."

Where can women join:

  • The group can be found on MeetUp with the first online event talking about Sex and Menopause from 7 pm - 8.30 pm Wednesday 29 June, tickets are just $5.00
  • Seats are limited to 30 smiles
  • Membership is open to persons identifying as a woman and who are aged over 18.
